Throughout my months spent as a member of this forum I have noticed quite a lot of topics in which members have complained of a squeak coming from the rear of the Fiesta ST. It seems to be another one of those general little problems with the car. A problem that not everybody has with their car (lucky them). I've taken my car to Ford to get this problem sorted several times over but the squeak just keeps coming back.

What's to blame? The handbrake cable!

Basically the handbrake cable is protected and sealed within a flexible metal tube that runs underneath the car. The squeak is caused by the handbrake cable rubbing and vibrating within this tube.

Whenever I take it to Ford they usually fix it for a short while, but the squeak comes back. I called in to Ford earlier last week and asked one of the guys to show me the problem under the car and how I can try to fix it myself instead of brining it to the garage all the time. Basically the guy said that I need to unclip the cable and work it back and forth in my hands and then apply some grease or WD40 (quite what this does is beyond me as the handbrake cable is sealed within the flexible tube).

I have tried doing what the guy told me several times, but to no effect. The squeak is loud and it seriously stops me from enjoying driving my ST. And my biggest concern is that there doesn't seem to be any solution. It's a manufacture fault.

I'm quite angry about it actually. You shouldn't expect such a problem from a manufacturer like Ford.

Has anyone else experienced this problem as bad as I have? And have you found a solution?

My friends....I HAVE THE ANSWER...

Looks like my local Ford dealership gave me the wrong advice on how to get rid of the squeak. The squeak, as it happens, is to do with the handbrake cable, but in a different section of the car...

Check out this link for the answer to the problem...

I've done as suggested on that forum and I haven't heard a squeak for a few days. Not a sniff.
Obviously when it rains the grease will be splashed away over time and the squeak will return, but all it takes is a re-application of grease. At the moment I have put white grease on the car but it isn't going to last as it's not very thick. I'll buy a thicker grease next week sometime.

I'm very happy that I've found a solution to this nagging problem.

All it took was a bit of searching on Google and Ford experts couldn't even fix it!
