Ok, as you all know I looking at getting an ST as soon as but I have a few questions:

Im looking at one with that has the stereo in like 3 different parts in the dash. Its a factory fit but I intend on putting my own there with a blanking plate but it looks like i wont be able to with this? Others I see dont have this type, why do they change it?

What are the differences with the facelift model?

Why do they do that not so nice blue/grey half dash, why didnt they just keep it simple all black! Is this a extra feature or something!

Cheers for your help.

the pre facelift did have those 3 differents parts in the dash compared to the facelift version which is one big unit. As for the difference between the pre facelift and facelift are new front and back light, better interior built quality and redesign dashboard and more extra included in the facelift version. Also those colour dash are only available on facelift version and they suppose to match un car interior ex: blue seat= blue dash, red seats= red dash and leatner seat= grey dash but think there two available with full leather

Regarding the dash colour, haven't you got a brochure?

There are 4 interior colours, some are however dependent on the exterior colour.

Get yourself a brochure if you haven't already got one

Ok, I guess what Im trying to say is can you remove that 3 part stereo and put my normal sized sony one in its place? I know the other bigger ones can be taken out and you can get blanking plates to fill any gaps.

I'v even seen some pics of owners on here that have done it, but I just dont think that 3 part one will come out?

With regards a brochure, I'm not buying brand new so I dont hve that luxury to choose!

Its more the stereo replacemnt that Im bothered about!

You can remove it but i don't think its as simple as with the facelift stereo (not just a case of pulling the other out and slotting the new one in)

There is a guide how to remove the standard pre-facelift in the How to section

http://www.fordfiestast.co.uk/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=30029&an=0&page=0#30029

There are a few people who have changed it and i think Chris (a member on here) did it to his old st.

Thanks Lisa,

When you say standard pre-facelift, is that the wierd 3 part one that Im on about?

So I take it that its not just as simple as putting the 'prongs' in and sliding the unit out, it looks like part of the dash needs to come out as well, is that correct? Would Ford be able to do itas I wouldnt be confident doing that?

Rich

I have a facelift st and that stereo is just putting the keys in,sliding the unit out then sorting out the new one. I have changed mine to an Alpine one (well i say i but i suppose it was technically my brother that did it whilst i supervised )

From what ive read on here and the pics ive seen, it does appear that you have to take your dash apart! If you wanted this doing (and didnt fancy doing it yourself) i'd recommend a specialist audio fitting place instead of Ford. It would probably be cheaper and you'd get better service!! I'll have a dig around and find any posts from people who have changed the standard unit in the pre-facelift.

There are a few improvements in the facelift st above the prefacelift though. Trip computer probably bein the best change (i think im right in thinkin that it wasnt on the pre-facelight but if im wrong im sure someone will correct me!).

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's 54, 05 and 55 reg ST's that will have it.

Hmmm, sounds like its going to be quite a task, and cost a bit of money. It's something that would either make me buy an ST or not as I have a top range Sony Bluetooth unit and I'd really like this in it.

The garage where this ST is have just rang me back and said that there are 4 holes by the stereo so you can just slide it out, I now suspect they arnt telling the whole tructh! (i've looked at pics and I dont see any holes!)

If it can be removed easily then Im going to put a deposit on it and buy it!

Why do Ford have to put a daft shaped stereo in there knowing that owners might like to remove it?

I'm sure ford could do it but its probably going to cost u abit and also maybe they doing it only if u buy a new unit from them otherwise to a special ice shop I'm sure they be able to help u

Is it a defo a pre-facelift youre looking at?

The facelift model does have 4 slots on the stereo for you to put keys in to remove it.

Easiest way to tell the difference between models is by their lights. The facelift has 'frog eye' headlights (kinda like a nipple )

Yes it will be a pre-facelift then. So to take the stereo out you may need to remove half your dash!

This is the post i was thinking of, so changin the stereo is possible it just depends how much work you're prepared to do and how much you want to spend

Oh great, oh well thanks for your help. Trust me to find one I like and its got that 'thing' in it.

So the garage are not being entirely truthfull when they say its got the four holes whereby you can slide it out?

I thought not anyway cos I've studied pics of the dash and I doesnt look like you can just remove it!
