This may sound daft but does anybody know any "tricks" to get cheaper car insurance...

Ive been told different things like, tell them u only do 5000 miles a year and that your car is garaged etc etc but do any of these actually work??

put a female on the insurance such as ur mum also putting a partener on helps makes you more resonsible in their eyes.

On the gargae no point if it aint cos if it gets nicked from home overnight u may not get paid out and the milage has to be what u do or again no payout if it all goes wrong

Like Dave said add a female driver to your insurance and it will make a difference.

There is no point lying when it comes to insurance. Insurance companies will try almost anything not to have to pay out. If you are worried about the insurance price try to keep any mods to a minimum as it can make a big differene to the amount you have to pay.

As said, defo put a Female on as a named driver. I put my wife on mine even though she has had a claim, took £40 off the price .

As the others said. A female will help to reduce your premium. The other "tricks" aren't worth doing - if you know anyone who works in insurance you will understand that it isn't worth lying about. In addition, lying about miles and garage make very little difference to the price - is it worth risking, having your insurance invalidated?

DO NOT LIE to an insurance company - you're the one who will be utterly screwed if you have an accident and the insurance company turns round and declares "you lied, you weren't insured."

Even the 'add a female' trick does not always work though - sometimes being the sole policy holder is best.

My cheapest quote (as an 18 year old male) was a good bit less with just myself as the driver, than putting my Mum (full no claims) or whoever on.
From what I could tell, most companies charged extra for an additional person (I think More Than were an excepetion though).

don't no if its same in uk but here u pay less insure if u have a limited mileage, also if ur car sleep in a garage or close area and also if u not using ur car to go to work and also ifu have a female driver or driver with more experience on ur contract but if u lie and they can proove it then they wont pay for it

try tescos insurance v cheap! just renewed mine loads cheaper then last year!

Yes it's the same here with pretty much all those things Jimmy, and obviously you've got to put the correct details down otherwise the insurance can be invalid. Your have the option as to whether you wish the policy to cover you for commuting to work or not, you can add whoever you need to as a named driver (and this may bring it down - or put it up!), and also have to declare whether it's garaged, kept on a drive, or in the street - like mine is! I may need a different house before I get my RS lol.

my quote this year £474 to renew with directline...take of my common law partner and it goes up to £545.....got it from Admiral after 3 comparasion site moneysuper market;gocomapre & confussed...the other half had a claim last year took her off and Admiral is £485 with her on and its £416....mad but there you go I dont get the way the work it out.

Depending on your age you should try admiral/elephant/bell (all owned by admiral and similar prices) but they were by far cheapest for me.

I'm with direct line now, £300 cheaper than my old insurer. Thats with 5yrs ncb Cas on my policy.
