stupid mistake - on my way back from my mates saw the lights were changing to red and sped up and went through the lights a bit too quickly noticed only once I'd gone through that there was a copper on the other side of the road - did a U-turn and flashed the blues at me

"any reason why you were going warp speed through those lights - in a hurry"

Er...s**t sorry

then explained to me I could get my license ripped up and my car taken away and if they were traffic cops would of given me points and a fine...luckily got away without either...I regret doing what I did but fortunatly got away with just a firm word

my first running with the boys in blue!

yeh red light runing aint good and that really hits ur insurance too as red light running is seen to be loads worse than speeding as it shows you are a risk taker.....at least you just got a word so leson learned I guess

Thank your lucky stars that someone give you a bit of a break up high... I've had a running with a motorway traffic cop in a Volvo T5 and i wouldn't be on the road still if he hadn't been a decent guy and thought he'd teach me a lesson instead of causing me grief... I was young, lesson learnt and thank god!

Lol some girl on ER had her licence for about a week and got pulled over twice for going through a red light. Now she has no licence, 6points and has to retake her test with a hefty fine. Not only that, her insurance has doubled now lol <<< not good!

licence ripped up - don't they know they've gone plastic?

No point getting smart with them mind you.... take it on the chin and say sorry and you'll be on your way with minimal fuss

...and yet stessex reported that someone was breaking into his car in the middle of the night and the police say they can't do anything. It seems we drivers get plenty of law applied to us, but when it comes to expecting support from the law, we can just sod off.
Sorry, feeling mighty grumpy today.

No you mean he called the police after the kid had long gone into the night. As a copper myself I will tell you that unless the calls say that the vehicle is being broken into while you on the phone then details will pretty much be taken over the phone for a crime report and number for your insurance, scenes of crime will visit you the next day to see if any prints left and a officer will attend to have a knock on neighbours doors over the next few days inbetween jobs.

With all due respect guys everybody moans about how all we do is pick on the poor motorist as they easy targets when in reality the roads are policed very little nowdays compared to when i joined and that was only 8yrs ago, unless you are a traffic cop you are told to not tie yourself up in traffic offences so that more officers can attend proper jobs.

It's this reason that 7/10 times you wont get an officer to you for a theft from/theft of motor vehicle becaue its already happened, not much will get solved if we drop everything an rush round so we are kept free to attend the jobs that require us to get our asses there due to the offender being there still

It sucks i know but no point slagging us off,we are sent to these jobs and go where we are told be by a control room of civilians and near retirement coppers who will send us to the jobs that are graded as immediate repsonse 1st,each time a officer arrives at a job the 1st knowledge they have of that job is when they were sent to it about 5minutes ago over the radio,we didnt know it was reported 3days ago or whatever it was and then all we get is abuse over the time it took us to arrive and yet we stood there thinking "But it only took me 5minutes to get here what you moaning at"

Moto here is don't moan about us,we get it in the neck for 99% of stuff that we have no control or knowledge about.

I think the Police do a fantastic job TBH.
I think they'd do an even better job if you were given guns and be allowed to blow the heads off persistent criminals (and let's face it, you know who they are and what they do) instead of putting them up infornt of the courts who just keep letting them go.
I know the do-gooders would moan but we can just get them to go and live in a bad area for a week, they'll soon be on our side.

CPS is a joke, the Police should decide who to convict and what for.

CPS= Criminal Protection Service.

The problem with arming officers all the time is that although gun crime is getting worse in some areas, by arming officers you will simply prompt more criminals to carry guns regularly as they will see a need to protect themselves. There is also the issue of a police officer being held hostage. E.g. You get an idiot with a baseball bat holding his ex wife and kid hostage because he thinks he got a raw deal in court blah blah blah. Somehow he takes a copper hostage who happens to have a gun on him. Now he isnt just armed with a baseball bat but with a gun. Its a reason as to why Thames Valley Police won't allow their officers to even carry Swiss army knives.

Another issue is the budget they get which most of the time is inadequate. Replacing police officers with Police Support Officers is a joke. They have naff all power to do anything and I really don't see the point. The only reason their job was invented was so Labour could save a few quid and still claim they had 'Police' on the streets. Stop wasting money on stupid projects like bailing Northern Rock out and fund public services better. Imagine what they could do with the 20 odd billion that one took from the tax payer.

Been living in uk for many years and still drive up there sometime can tell u that cops in uk are less on the roads than overhere and then don't pull u over for no reason even if sometime U do make a fault, maybe having a foreign number plates help but still don't see that many on the road try to catch people speeding compare to france were they never stop

STrange - I'm not having a go at the police 'on the ground', I'm blaming the system, which insists on meeting targets. Everything is geared towards gaining 'quick clear-ups' to meet the government imposed targets, so easy stuff like pulling a motorist or doing a kid for 'racial harrassment' (in reality a playground fight) is top of the list, but actually getting out and looking for a criminal comes last.
This little scrote could have been caught in posession of tools etc if the police had turned out and had a good look around, but it would have been a 'hard work' job and probably not worth the points.
