We've had our ST for 3 days and can hear a knocking sound that can also be felt through the floor - more noticeably on the passenger side. Sounds like something appears to be loose. It happens at low speed and high, although seems to get worse at higher speeds. It's noticeable on smooth roads but does seem worse on uneven roads. Also we don't seem to feel it in the steering.

We're taking it back to the dealer on Saturday for them to check out but wonder if anyone else has the same "problem"? We wonder if its just an ST thing with it being a combination of stiffer suspension, low profiles etc, or whether there is really something wrong.

Not sure about a knocking sound, but at low speeds I seem to keep hearing a creaking plastic sound, think it's more the plastic interior than anything else - or thats what I'm hoping!

Thanks. We think it might be the exhaust - you can feel the knocking through the floor on the passenger side. We've read that the exhaust can knock but it's fairly constant, even on smooth roads. We'll see what the dealer says on Saturday but we expect to be fobbed off and wanted to know from other drivers if what we're experiencing is usual for an ST.

My exhaust knocked like this after i had the Cat back fitted.

If you look underneath, the exhaust goes from the cat and routes over a metal reinforcement strap in the centre, behind the front seats.

If the exhaust, especially when cold, touches the metal strap it will resound inside the car more so to the passenger side for some reason.

Hi just an update to let you guys know how we got on at the dealer today. Typical though - it was like going to the doctor - you wait ages for an appointment and when you get there you're better. The noise and rumbling feeling in the passenger side have calmed down a lot over the past few days. They did mention that there's been a problem with the handbrake cable (which I've read about on this site) which could be responsible for the noise. Anyway, they took it out for a spin and put it up on the ramp. Two cups of tea and a couple of shortbreads later they said they couldn't see anything wrong but had tightened up the exhaust heat shield and greased everything up. Wondering if it was just the brakes and stuff bedding in since its new. Fingers crossed ........
