You traded your car in whilst knowing the engine needed extensive work but yet you did not tell them... I'm sorry but I think that's on the limit of fraud and I certainly would not shout it on a public forum, particularly knowing that the new owner reads these pages.

I agree with that but if the dealer dosen't ask or even test drive the car what can they do? If the dealer dosen't check these things they have nothing to go on.

u maybe be right there but over here if a dealer buy the car from u but then later found that the engine is dead or have internal damage then the dealer could always ask to pay for the car repair but its rarely happen and hard to prove

Surely the dealer would have checked it over before accepting it as a trade in?...that would be like us going to buy a car without test driving it first or even looking at it!

My last car he looked round the outside and that was it. Its amazing how they can do business with the amount of dodgy cars they must have in. But if they don't want to take a closer look its their loss.

nah, the dealer we part ex'd the wifes punto just looked at it. never started it up or drove it, just looked at it. we told them what problems it had and they still gave us 2 grand!
suppose its a bit bad to let them take it knowing its broke and you say nothing at all but they make enough money so tough luck to the dealer and bad luck to the new owner, its him or her you should feel sorry for!

the last 2 cars i have traded in i had to sign to say I knew of no major faults and that the car had not had major repairs of an accident to my knowledge this was a contract which if i had lied on I would have been liable for!

dealer rarely try the car, they just look the inside and outside of the car and rarely the engine but the vw dealer who I did order my polo took my car for a low price cos it a classify as a gti and say it could have been difficult to resale vut they lucky for same sold it quickly and after they ask me for the original spare part(airbox, exhaust) told them I have a look at it never did as I sold the spare part and thats because they didn't even check the engine bay as long as the car is clean outside then u wont any problems

OK, I don't think you'd shot the engine though TBH I think you'd shot the cat.

I wanted the symptoms for some research, not to worry.
