in the mag it compares different cooling additives .....does anyone use additives to help cooling ?

Not sure about anyone else, but my engine never overheats so don't see much need for addatives

Nah, the temp guage stays in the middle and never moves, no matter what the temp is outside and how hard I drive her. Unlike my old Fords ......

same with mine, even after a good hard drive

mine too according to the temp gauge is always fine always in normal.......but you do read on the forum that some people, do have a mixed bag of power , great sometimes, not so good others .... normal on the gauge i would think covers quite a big variation in temps, but i also wonder if this could be a reason for mixed performances maybe , i'm no mechanic just a thought .

How can adatives aid cooling??

I thought water was water?

I've heard of "Water Wetter" before but that's about it?

have a look at the mag when you go to your local newsagents i thought so too , but there are additives which aid cooling other than just water .....

these all get revieved with mixed results

water & antifreeze
radtec coolboost
dei radiator relief
millers extra cool
water wetter

water and anti( which most of us have ) avg 70mph 102 degrees /idle test + fan 112 degrees.

dei radiator relief 70mph 102 degress/ idle test 97 degrees

it also goes on to say ......by reducing and controlling the coolant temperature you"ll also be improving your engines performance, or at least the ability to perform.

its probably work better for turbo cars as the turbo do make lot of power, on mine I fit bigger air intake for the air filter and bigger air entry for the intercooler to keep the temperature as low as possible and so far seem to work

Just to clarify things a little.

When i went to mechanical college, (many moons ago), i will always remember.... Antifreeze reduces the water molecules from 'fusing' in the winter months, Zero Degrees Celcius; but Antifreeze also helps the engine temp cool down in the hotter months of the year.

So unless any major mods have been done, i would stick to the norm.

I cant comment on the actual effectiveness of the addatives, but the theory does stand.

'Water wetter' or similar reduces the contact angle of the water to aid 'wetting' the surfaces which it touches. go to the kitchen and put a few drops of water into a non-stick pan and you'll see the same effect (but opposite). Ok, in that case you're modifying the pan, not the water. Same can be said for a freshly waxed car the water balls up rather than forms a sheet (which you'd expect from a fluid). You can see the same kinda effect with different car shampoos too - take a bucket of water and wash the car and you can get streaks - a good shampoo however wets the paint much better and forms a film rather than balling up. In this case you've modified the water, not the paint.

The theory with water wetter is that if you can improve the wetting of the surface you're trying to cool, you can remove heat more effectivly. I'm not sure whats inside to make this happen, but if anyones got a bottle, let me know and I'll find out!

Next potential gain is to modify the cooling agent itself so that it transfers heat better and you can also look to improve its ability to store heat. Here I'm not sure where the biggest gain is as heat transfer is somewhat negated by the fact your transfer medimum is fluid and most likely turbulant (I've got no idea how quick the coolant moves?)

Finally, you have to consider the system as a whole and what drive the thermal transit from engine to coolant. I'm assuming that this is going to be Newtonian as you've got a fresh supply of cool fluid coming from the radiator but anybody with an old car on a hot day will know that this isn't always the case Anyway - thermal transfer is always dominated by temperature differential so cooler incoming coolant will draw more heat from the engine assuming all other factors remain constant.

So, Performance Ford's claims may be correct but they're measuring coolant temperature, not engine temperature. That is to say that the coolant is either getting rid of heat more effectivly or not taking it from the engine in the first place. The claim that cooler coolant will improve engine performance is maybe not 100% justified.

maybe it work similar to those brake fluid they used for race who seem to perform better maybe its the same with those cooling fluid?

the question as got to be could it help the engine to perform ???? based on dealing with heat more effectively !!

As far as I am aware, a cool engine doesn't produce any more power than a hot engine.
