Right,

I've been growing all my plants from seed this year as i want to learn a little more about gardening as previously I was useless.

I have grown, strawberries, beetroot, runner bean, potatoes, sunflowers, some pretty flowers and also bex gave me some marigolds but they were already done.

I have planted some pips out of a lemon and i want to try and grow a lemon tree... whats your thoughts... do you think it will work?

I'll keep everyone updated on if it works or not but take a gamble

just answered my pwn question by consulting mr internet!!

they can be grown here as long as they get taken inside during low temps and frost.
could take up to 10 years to get fruit from them!!

It should grow, provided that it's looked after. Assuming that it starts sprouting then remember to take it indoors in the autumn, or it will die from frost over the winter, and take it outdoors in the spring so that theres a chance of it polinating and growing fruit (although that will take a few years, not sure how many).

Yes iknow about it taking a few years to grow fruit and the frost factor... I may well be able to cover it with a green house plastic cover thingie for the winter period... if when its still small should be able to take it indoors.

I also read it needs 12 hours of sunlight so a 40w halogen bulb would be good to point at it during the winter period to keep it growing correctly.

I've planted them indoors so will have to see if they grow or not.

Not sure - you need to make sure that your pips didn't come from an infertile fruit.

A standard fruit is the product of a polinated plant so it would grow, assuming all other factors such as temperature, water, light and food are ok. But, most fruit that you buy are infact from F1 hybrid (not the racing cars) plants/trees. I'm 100% up to speed on the genetics, but if memory serves me an F1 hybrid is a cross pollination of specis which gives desirable qualities such as size/taste/resistance to disease etc but as a result it is infact infertile.

Basically - it depends on what lemon you have taken the seed from.

As for the climate - even if you get a tree to grow it will be a long time before you see any fruit but my parents have recently started to get an olive crop in a very sheltered little sun trap so it could be possible to grow lemons?

Right... if my F1 Breed Genetically Modified Lemon Seeds fail to become trees then I'm going to cry... and then invest in an organic lemon... this should grow?

Worth a try lol... some great views and advice here
