how do you remove these off the bonett? thinking of painting them, I have proper Ford performance blue paint, can I just use this or would they need some sort of undercoat.

They just pop out, open your bonnet, dissconet the hose and push them out

As for paint a layer of primer
few layers of colour
few layers of lacqure.

Just remember to put pins or a bit of paper in the jets other wise you'll block them

DON'T forget to de-grease them before applying any sort of paint ! (you could use thinners)
They're likely coated in all sorts of wax and the paint will not adhere to that.

thanks, sounds hard work when I could be out on my bike instead, maybe I will buy some from Torqsteer prepainted, not sure if they still do them.
