Both brake lights have not been working, so ive changed the brake/stop light bulbs. Now when i brake (without lights switched on) my dashboard lights come on and my headlights flash!!
When the lights are switched on, all my lights - including my top brake light - are on and does not show me braking.
Can anyone hazard a guess as to whats wrong? Bad bulbs, or have i put it back together wrong somehow?
Any help would be appreciated please, before i get rear-ended or pulled up by road traffic

You have got a short circut. Mine did this when i changed my lights. Check you havn't caught or broken any of the wires in the loom. Also make sure the bulbs are in correctly. Its a simple thing but any one can put the bulb in the wrong way. I have

Thanks for replying Micky.
The bulbs didnt seem to click in as good as the ones that came out (original with the car). Im hoping its just cheap bulbs and getting some new ones will solve the problem.
Being thick - is wires in the loom the bit that plugs back in?

Yeah they are. You can catch them on the body of the car when you put the lights back. I'm pretty sure that the rear lights have off set pins and its easy to put them in wrong. Just a quick test you can do. Take the lights off the car and plug the left into the right. and try it with just the one set on. Do the same with the other side.

If it still does it it will proberly be a problem with the bulbs/board. If it dosen't it could be a damaged wiring loom.

If it still does it take it to the dealer to have a look. If it is under warante they should have a look there and then as its a safety issue.

EDIT: Just had another thought do the side lights work. It could be the swith on the brake pedal that has gone.

That sounds like an earthing problem.

Remove the lights and check the harnesses are not damaged and also make sure you have put the right bulbs in the right way round.

If all else fails you will need to get it checked out.

Thanks all.
Brought some more expensive bulbs and all is fine now. Fun while it lasted though - brake and your front lights flash..barmy.
