Difficult one, it'll need some piping to duct the cool air in otherwise it'll probably result in less power. Would love to see what one looks like.

Generally speaking, an induction kit will be wasted by itself. Ok, you'll get a decent induction roar (particularly if its a K&N cone filter) but no real power gain. To avoid losing power you will, like Hugh says, need to get a cold air feed which will be difficult in such a cramped engine bay. Best bet is to leave the induction well-alone, its good enough as it is, and perhaps look into something like an ECU remap. I'm tempted to do it in the future, I reckon if you get it done at the right place you could see another 30bhp or so.

An induction kit wouldn't be a bad idea on this kind of car, the intake system is pretty tortuous to get it to fit in the engine bay. Yeah, you are going to loose some power at standstill when your sucking in lots of hot air, so expect the engine to bog down more away from the lights, but the through the gear performance should improve. 30 hp from a remap, I think not! All people like Superchips do is allow you to take advantage of fuels like Shell Optimax and avoid detonation at high load.

Err, who said anything about Superchips? They just offer piggyback ECUs which aren't tailored to your car, they don't actually remap the original chip...

Unichip would be better to take advantage of modifications.

Sorry, I didn't just mean just Superchips I meant anyone who changes the control system, whether its changing the original hardware or replacing it completely.

The BMC Dynamic Airbox looks quite good on paper. Does anyone have any experience with them? I think there is a cheaper plastic version, too.

Marcy Motorsport Duratec induction kits look pretty good (U.S. site, but seems to stock some good stuff). I think there is a Marcy Motorsport equipped Ford Focus doing 13.5s quarter miles somewhere . . . They have a nice looking set of throttle bodies there - not sure if it would fit into the Fiesta engine bay though?

Best bet is to have a look locally and see what tuning companies are round your way (no offence, but I bet there's plenty in Essex! ). If you can face the embarrassment, mags like Max Power, Revs, etc, or more specialist stuff such as Fast Ford have details in the back of places that'll offer ECU tuning. Even more mainstream mags such as Top Gear and EVO now have details of tuning companies throughout. Best bet is just to give 'em a ring and see what they can offer. Bearing in mind the ST is still a relatively new car, I'm not sure what would be available just yet though, unless you fancy your car being a test bed or something...

Its difficult to know really, it varies largely from company to company, but I reckon you'd need to look at about £500+ for a decent remap. You can go to Superchips and get something for half the price, but you'll only likely get half the power gain, if that.

Have a look on www.rsstoc.com as there's quite a few threads on options as far as performance tuning is concerned.
