I have a 57 reg ST and there is two round lights on the dashboard, one is coming on when the ignition is turned on and when the doors are open but the other is not. I thought both were for the doors but I went to the garage and they told me it is a warning light for something else but didn't know what. Does anyone know what the right round dashboard light is for? Thanks

I can only think of one round light, which is at the top in the middle - it is for the immobilizer.

Flashes when armed, and goes solid when the ignition is first switched on I think...

The light on the right is red when you put the ignition key in position 2 it comes on with all the other check lights and go out when the system checks everything is ok then goes out.

Left LED is amber or red depending on message and comes on red when you put ignition on.

The right hand LED is a dummy that was costed out before job#1

It has no function as they made the left one able to light amber or red but the lens was left in situ as the part would have been already tooled up.

I'm sure it could be used for something, Gear change indicator

or perhaps it could be used as an indicator to determine when your 'better' half has moaned too much and the ejector seat can be used!

I think it was going to be used for "low screen wash" which was also costed out.

How many of these nearly-features have actually been costed out in order to save a few pence per car(that could then have possibly been factored out by adding £50 or something to the rrp which no-one would have noticed)?

The ones that I think have been mentionned are:

  • Low washer bottle level
  • Gear change indicator
  • Seat belt indicator

I'm sure you've mentionned others Dave, but can't think off the top of my head. I'm sure some of these kind of things have actually been put into continental models, but missed off UK models in order to save the cost involved of connecting them, although they are still physically in place.

And not to forget a proper ignition system, direct injection etc.
