Set this on my 3yr old Focus ST but I collect the Fiesta ST next week
It is supposed to help with carjacking as the easiest way now is to nick the keys seems they are getting snatched at red lights an jams The open your door and steal your keys. Either you chase them or go get help the minute you leave the car they nick it
I see the Focus RS uses this as does the USA spec fords It easy activate on any of the Focus range and as the system looks the same wondered if I can still set it on my new ST (Gem module door locks)

How To Activate The Auto Lock Facility On The Focus RS.

1. Turn on the ignition but dont start the engine

2. Lock the door by pushing in the button below the handle, and then pull the handle slightly to reopen it (Repeat this operation three times)

3. Turn off the ignition

4. Lock the door by pushing in the button below the handle, and then pull the handle slightly to reopen it (Repeat this operation three times)

5. Turn on the ignition but dont start the engine
A beep should be heard

6. Lock the door by pushing in the button below the handle and then pull the handle slightly to reopen again
A final beep should be heard

Basically, once you set this up the doors will lock automatically more or less as soon as the car starts rolling, nominally @ 7kph. You'll still be able to open the doors by pulling the interior handle, but they won't be able to be opened from the outside. If you stop and open the door though they won't relock automatically unless you turn off the engine and restart - basically, it works once per journey, after that you have to do it manually. And in the event of an accident, the airbag system will unlock the doors automatically, so you don't need to worry about that aspect.
do same again to deactivate

A friend's Mini has this feature, you can hear the doors lock once you start moving. I don't live in fear of getting car-jacked or anything, but its a useful security feature to have nonetheless. There's nothing, to my knowledge, in the Fiesta (ST) manual to say its got this feature though, but I might try it later and see if it works. Seems a bit fiddly to activate it though...

no it is really simple 10 seconds max I think all Fords have it for the USA market
the other auto lock is not featured in the handbook either but I forgot how I set that
IE if you unlock the car and do not turn on the Ign in 30 secs it will lock again I have that set on the focus too I am hoping the New ST has that as well
The car is outside the front window and if I use my keys for anything eg locking the front door sometimes I have unlocked the car without knowing the autolock then just locks it again
The only snag with this is my wife has been locked out once she put the keys down on the seat while putting some shopping in the car by the time she walked to the drivers door it locked her out now she never ever lets go off the keys while out of the car.

Oh, I think that feature is set by default on the ST, it happened to me the first time the other day. I'd unlocked the car to put my bag in but then decided to have a smoke so I shut the door again, and after about 30 secs the doors locked. Like you say though, I better make sure I never leave my keys in it, its a slightly less useful security feature, IMO...

can i not suggest a simpler idea. get in the car. lock the door. drive off. sorted. unlock door at destination. sorted. lol.

also - if u have this autolock on, what happens when you stop moving - if it only activates at 3/5mph - when you're at lights and theyre red, you're doing 0mph.. (my mate has a mini too and yes its an actual named feature, so I doubt the Fiesta ST has it...

I personally just lock my doors all the time, once u start doing it, it becomes like nature just as you pull your pants down to go to the toilet.

I guess its just one of those things Chris, if its not habit already then its useful to have. I'll try it later and see if it works. The Mini one is the same as above, when you first set off it locks for the duration of your journey (even if you come to a standstill at lights or in traffic or whatever) and only unlocks if you either pull the door handle or press the central locking button on the dash.

Once you start moving the doors lock then they stay locked even if you stop.

The doors DO NOT unlock in the event of a crash. This is why the feature is not advertised by Ford.

Yes they do on Auto lock its a US spec thing they are linked to the airbag deployment circuit.
I think if you just lock the doors then they do not unlock if you crash

Interesting, I always wondered why. I showed my mate how to set it on his Mondeo and a week later he was the victim of an attempted car jacking at gunpoint in Leamington. He phoned me 2 days later to thank me as he reckons it saved him.

It's on BBC news website (the jacking, not me!).

LOL, I think there are various websites offering clips of 'jacking'

I tried it the other day after the same thing came up on rsstoc. It doesn't work on mine either.

Not too bothered really, like I said above, I don't really live in fear of being carjacked in rural Hampshire. If someone wants my car then they'll take it, there's not a lot I'd ever be able to do to stop them. That's ultimately what I pay my insurance premium for...
