Hi all,

After 18 months of enjoying my rx8 its time to say goodbye as its a becoming a money pit - I need something slightly cheaper to run (£130/tyre, £400 road tax, ave 16MPG )...but just as fun!!

After looking round at loads of cars the Fiesta ST seems to be the one for me. I`m waiting for a test drive but I was wondering what your thoughts are on what the main differences are going to be - anyone made a similar switch?

My mates says it will feel slow because of the 1.5 sec difference in the 0-60 time but I disagree because you have to totally smoke the clutch to get that time in an rx8. It does handle well however so whats the st`s handling like?

Ive read reviews on it but I prefer to ask the people who actually drive them rather than a reporter who had 5 min round a track in one.

Cheers

Andy

Well why dont you take one for a spin and find out? Its going to be slower but I reckon its just as much fun and more rewarding than the RX8 and its also more practical and doesn't drink fuel and oil.

My brother has an S2000 and although its nice enough, I still prefer the ST as it meets all my needs. Its a great toy, but driving it for everyday use is a nightmare

I think you'll be surpirsed by the ST but dont expect a rocket ship and remember to look at the speedo - you're going faster than you think!

st's handle like hell, theres not alot that would stick with it down a lane. stright line power isnt all that, but an exhaust and filter, maybe chip it, and it will be just as quick as a clio 182 or 197 or corsa vxr, which is quick enough for me (at the mo). ive never had any regrets buying my st, all my friends that ive taken out in it have been impressed, by the way it handles, how good it looks. id buy another one.

as long as you expect it won't be as quick then it shouldn't be a problem for you and you will easily be getting 28mpg out of the ST vs your RX8 and tax next year ill be £205 on the ST. Definitely test drive the ST as soon as you can and make sure they give you a proper go of it to test the handling out.

Welcome to the site by the way

Keep us updated!

i got mine yesterday

i think i prob got the best deal on my rx8 (still ripped off tho).

the ST is a nice car so far. not as special as the rx8 but it's a stop gap for a couple of years i hope.

i have had a few crunchy reverse gear selections so far. maybe that is something to get used to but im gonna have it checked over asap.

the heated seats in the ST are a lot hotter than the rx8's!!

Reverse allways crunches, it will take some getting used to as will pulling away from junctions because of the clutch.

To stop it crunching just pop into 1st (or 3rd which I use), then put it in reverse. That usually stops it.

Or hold the clutch down for a couple of seconds before shifting into reverse. One of them will probably stop it (or maybe both)

never been a fan of the RX8 but think the RX7 is nice. i think the ST wins just on the costs of running but each to their own and all that!

Thanks for all the replys guys

Like u say Steve, the best way to find out is to take one for a spin - I`m doing that this weekend so I`ll let you all know how I get on.

I might even buy it if I can get a good trade price in on my rx8 (yeah right!)
