Well I have had mine tested and its very short on power, I am giving ford the chance to correct the problem its 15kw and 30nm of torque short, that’s a lot of power! Another person’s car was tested and its 5kw and 10nm short. That’s why I urge everyone to please go and get your cars tested, when I got mine I thought wow this power is amazing, and just by pure chance I decided to have it checked and its very under powered, so guys lets see if the go really matches the show.

Erm . . . is the 110kW and 190Nm claimed for the engine or at the wheels?
If it's at the wheels it's a bit easier to measure on a dyna (how do you actually measure engine power on its own, anyway?)
I think it's claimed at the flywheel though . . . or am I wrong?
Also, you will need to check that the dyna has been correctly calibrated and that the operator isn't just trying to sell a "Level 1" upgrade or something (the improvements which will, of course, be proven on the same dyna!)

this figure of 110kw and 190nm are at the flywheel and so is the testing figures i gave. the dyno is ford approved and was recomended by ford to use. so i recommend have yours tested just out of interest...

Hmmm. My car should arrive in a couple of days, so I will definitely make the effort to get it tested. I'm curious what Ford will actually be able to do about the problem, though... swap the car, swap the engine, give a free voucher for the tuner of your choice ??? There are not many ST's coming to South Africa, so I don't see what will be feasible here, if there are indeed widespread problems.

Still, if true, I think we need to do everything in our power to convince Ford that they need to make right. Mazda (US) offered to buy back all RX-8's sold (at original prices) because they made 238hp instead of 247. They offered free maintenance plans during the warranty period for those that wanted to keep their cars. Ford (US) made engine modifications on all Mustang Cobras so that they could produce the claimed 320hp. It's all a bit premature, but if it's true, I think we need to do something. The manufacturers really do need to be kept honest. Info obtained here: http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2003-09-03-carbuyback_x.htm

I don't think the mileage should matter in this case. Remember, the claimed figures are supposed to be valid over the ENTIRE duration of the car's supported lifetime (provided that everything is serviced correctly, etc). It's up to the manufacturer to claim conservative figures to meet these specifications.

If the torque and power output is not as stated in the product description we could all take our cars back tomorrow under the "sale of goods act" .

Where can you get the car dyno tested and roughly how much does it cost?
