As said, you've got to tell your insurance, but after you are prosecuted (otherwise you are not necesserily guilty...), or you could face your policy being cancelled/declared void due to failure to disclose material fact, and if you've just knocked somebody down, or been stopped by the police and have to produce, that's not good! You are not hugely over the ACPO guidelines, so I'd expect £60 and 3 points. Usually you are better off accepting the fixed penalty, but if you are at risk of losing your license then I'd look in at www.roadsidelawyer.co.uk - it's a good site to look through when you are bored, and can be really interesting (if you are boring? ) Insurance premium wise, it depends on your age and such, but due to the high number of SP30s ("Exceeding statutory speed limit on a public road"), I wouldn't expect an increase (or not much anyway).

mmmm I think speeding fines are in fact guilty until proven innocent. ie you have to prove that you were not driving rather than the police proving that you were.
That said, until you have the points on your licence you are not doing anything wrong by not telling your insurance company. If you get an SP30 + 3points I wouldn't bother contesting it; it will cost you more than the fine and insurance effect is worth.
Would just like to point out that 52 in a 40 zone is a tad quick - your speedo must have been reading 55+ so you don't really have an excuse to contest it.

I was just pointing out that there is little point arguing with with the fixed notice. The police wont give a damn that it happened late at night or that there where no childern around (and why do people think that a childs life is more valued than any life?)
There is a speed limit in place and although you can choose to ignor this, if/when you get caught, you have very little room to contest it.
The only thing you can do is go back to where you got caught and check the signs are clear and that speed camera warning signs are in place.

There is more than 1 reason to keep the speed down!
I wouldn't worry too much about the cost of the insurance. I got done twice in 6 weeks after having a clean licence for 20 years. My insurance company wanted to up my premium (on my VW Golf GTi 1.8t 220bhp!(I know VW is probably a swear word on here but it's the wife's ST!)from £350 to over £700. I shopped around and managed to get covered after some haggling with my current insurers for £300! 2 years later and i have just renewed for £220!!! I know I am an old git now, but there have to be some advantages to being nearly 40!!!!
I now drive within the speed limits, especially in 30 and 40mph limits. it doesn't mean that I don't get to 30 or 40 quickly, but they put the limits there for a reason, and 'they' know where the limits are exceeded, hence the mobile camera's!
It has also had a dramatic effect on my fuel costs. I can get easily 35mpg from a highly modded VW that will do 0 to 6- in 6 seconds and more than 140mph. On a run to Norfolk recently I managed to get over 40mpg!

Kaxe: I hope you are all doing well!
kenny: hows the mk3 rs mate
_Jimmy_: @Brabbit79 it's probably oil passing the piston rings at high revs, used to happen with mine too but normal driving it wouldn't use much oil at all
