I'd get a quote from a garage mate, I'm guessing about £600?
Thinking about it the car will need a good checking over for someone to have managed that on an ST they must have been hammering it! Could be other things wrong.

Depends how cheap the car is.

There's plenty of written off Mondeo 00-07s in scrap yards now, so you'd always be able to get an engine for it (or from a Mazda 3/6).

If the head gasket has gone then there may be other problems, as suggested, so make sure the purchase price is low enough to cover a replacement engine then you won't be out of pocket.

I wouldn't go anywhere near Ford as they will charge £65 per hour just to find out what is wrong.

ive never heard of one being done, not even the mondeo engines tend to suffer, you need to have it sniff tested and id say if its gone bad enough you will need a head so you wouldnt get much change from 1300 at a dealer,

Must have ragged it to have done that... jesus!!! It's going to be expensive. I've not heard of this happening so can't offer any advise... try your scrappies for parts and a local garage to find out what is wrong and how much to fix.
