hi, my dad does lpg conversions for a living, i used to do them with him until i started my new job. in a nutshell:

DOWNSIDES: where will you put the tank? ur only options are in place of the spare wheel, or mounted in the boot.
depending on personal preferance, where do you want to put the filler? (WARNING: a 2-3 inch round whole will be drilled into your bodywork!)

BENIFITS: LPG is on average half the forecourt cost of petrol.
you can re-map the timing on a lap top (i have the software of every single LPG system on the market) if you know what ur doing, just like dreamscience etc)

there are a few more finer points too. how many miles do you do per year? for example, if it costs £1200-1400 to convert it, taking into account the money you save at the pump, how long will it take you for you to get your money back?

any further questions, please just ask!

I was toying with the idea but with the car still under warrenty it just doesn't make sense. Also, I'm not sure how it would effect the resale value and the garenteed future value.... ultimately, how many people want to buy and ST that runs on LPG?!?

I personally think LPG will be something that more and more people will come to use as the years go by.

It may well happen that LPG becomes more popular over time.

However... at the moment it's a bit of a chicken and egg situation, where there's limited domestic demand, because of the small number of filling stations that offer it. But the reason for that small number is because of the limited demand for sales of LPG.

It also needs to be remembered that the main reason for the relative cheapness of LPG as a vehicle fuel isn't so much the relative costs of the fuel, it's more to do with the tax rates on lpg compared to petrol and diesel. I suspect that if LPG did threaten to seriously take off, then the tax rate would be quietly ramped upwards.
