Just wondering if anyone had any problems with warranty cos they have put mods on there car? as i wouldnt mind puttin a few things on it, just dont want something to go wrong with my car then Ford say they cant do anythin cos my warranty is void?

whats everyones views on warranty/modding?

its personal choice mate and you have to weigh up just what the warranty means to you and bear in mind that any loophole a business can find to not have to pay out will be taken

if a part of the car needs to be repaired but happens to be a part you have modified or is effected by a modification, i think ford will show you the door

if in doubt ask the dealer what they would do.

simple mods like an induction kit can be swapped over easy enough before ford get to see it, they will even lower it for you.

i also think i read somewhere that certain remap mods can be just removed and undetected? not sure on this one though.

As Andy said, for some mods you will be able to alter it back before taking it into the garage if need be. The rule is that if something has gone wrong as a result of a modification being made, then that will no longer be covered under warranty. If it's something unrelated, then the warranty will still be valid. For example, after 30,000 miles my cambelt needed replaced. I knew that the problem I had had nothing to do with my modified exhaust, so didn't even bother switching it over to the standard one, but it was still repaired under warranty.

yeah, my mates, mate works at Ford , awesome with cars apparently, so might ask him for a bit of advice and see whats happened in the past at the Ford i go to. also might ask him to fit it for me if i get one, could get him to show me how its done for when it needs takin out

Im umming and arring at the minute about lowering my ST, on one hand im thinking well i have a 6 month old car with 2.5 years warranty on it, but on the other hand every time i look at the car i just think it looks too high on standard suspension

Rang ford today and he said - yes they offer a lowering kit from Eibach for every model fiesta apart from the ST, but if they can get the part and fit it my warranty will be intact.

The other thing is, i have a good mate that would fit the springs for just a bit of beer money. Im waiting for ford to get back to me with a price.

I was exactly the same as you, I toyed with the of Ford fitting a set of Eibachs, that was until they quoted a ridiculous price. I paid a mate who has his own workshop, I watched him do it and gave him a % of the price that Ford were asking for.

I have a full Ford parts reciept for the spings so in the unlikely event of a problem I should be ok. On the other hand, I would not mod anything engine related as this is pushing it a bit too gar IMO.

The lowered look is much better, they look way too high on standard springs, they are even higher than a normal spec model as standard

If the eibach have a ford part number then you must be able to get them fitted anywhere. Surely this must fall under the same rules as servicing?!

what we need is a land mark case! I think ford would struggle to win - they've endorsed the modification by offering it as an after market upgrade - ie it wont have an adverse effect on the car.

The law was put in place to stop the likes of ford charging what they want and owning a monopoly by creating the fear of nullifying your warrenty
