HI

My Headunit has shown me the dreaded CD ERR3 message and this on an original CD, the only difference being that its one of those with a music video on too...any ideas on how to rectify this? and does anyone have any advice as to what types of CD's are compatible with this seemingly 'iffy' headunit? thanks... otherwise the car is great. ciao Jos

I would guess its not CD related as it is happening with all types of disk completely randomly.

I would go with a badly designed head unit.

Back to the dealer for a new one

People have tried giving the head unit a good thump, turning it on & off, disconnecting, waiting and reconnecting it to the battery... many things! I would recommend you go back to your dealership too because if none of these work then you'll have to order a new head unit anyway. I have heard this is taking a long time (up to 5 weeks!) so (if you can afford it) perhaps investigate a new headunit.

If it doesn't happen with other discs and it passes the self-test they won't give you a new one. If the manufactures don't find it dodgy its a £600 bill for the Ford dealer which they won't be prepared to pay!

Hi All

Got the issue sorted (I'm so glad, I really didn't fancy the dealer pulling apart my dash...) In error mode I just pushed another CD about 85% in and pulled it out again, and voila out popped the jammed CD (which does look a bit dodgy I must admit), now its working fine again...cheers Jos

*waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah* I got the dreaded CD ERR3 today when I tried to eject all of my CDs

I cant be bothered with the 6006 especially as it has such an appalling reputation so new ICE install here I come! I have now written my complaint letter to Ford (both Customer Relationship and my dealership) and I've really gone for it *hehe*

Lol go get 'em Pink!

Luckily I've had no problem yet (touch wood) but it seems that it will only be a matter of time!

yeah the 6006 is rubbish, the sound is ok for a radio that comes with the car but the actual working of the unit is terrible, its slow, noisy and prone to error. And whats more crazy is the cost of it, for the price of 360 odd pounds (approx cost from ford) you could buy a pretty decent replacment that not only sounds better but will work too! Go

Again touchwood I haven't had any problems yet, albeit that it can be a bit slow at times, although it may just be a matter of time. The only thing that would bother me about replacing mine is that I just know that I would end up damaging the IP bezel around the centre console when changing it. I'm sure I've seen a pic on here somewhere where someone had replaced the unit, if anyone sees it could they be kind enough to supply the link?

Just after I posted that I went out in my car and played a CD I had copied myself! It works fine. However, I always copy them at a slow speed so I don't know if that helps?

I had a CD ERR error on my Focus ST 6006. I caused it by removing the unit with CD’s still in it. I picked the car up new Saturday morning we went on holiday in it Saturday afternoon I decided to fit my Nokia car kit for phone and knackered it.
It’s not the same unit visually but I believe it to have the same innards.
As I did not want to wait till we got back to hear some music I stripped the radio my self. The ERR was caused by 2 CD’s sitting in the same bay in the unit, caused by me tilting the radio removing it. It was a pain to remove the CD’s manually but they do come out. I refit it in dash and loaded all CD’s It has worked fine right up to me changing to the Fiesta ST last week.
All my CD’s in the car are copies CD /R’s not W/R’s Backups (not pirates) goes back to the days when in car radios used to eat my cassettes. So I now keep the originals at home.
The Focus ST 6006 played all my discs as has the Fiesta ST 6006. I believe the ERR messages to be mechanical errors (jams). Do not cut the power i.e. turn on the engine, or remove key while the CDs are loading or unloading. DO NOT remove the radio with discs in. It’s a while since and I can’t remember the exact ERR code. But may help stop some of the ERR messages.

I would hope you woudn't have to pay anything! Is it not covered by the warranty? I think I'm right in that other people haven't had to pay. Though didn't you get yours from CG? I wouldn't be that surprised if they try to fob you off.

CD ERR 3 is indeed a mechanical error... there is a process of self test and buttons to press then if that don't work the unit has to be replaced.

Will check 2mo

I'd heard that if the manufacturer deem that it has been misused ie copied disks that the warranty could be void but theres no copied disks in mine !

I'm inclined to think along the same lines as DavidT. Most dealers probably wouldn't bat an eyelid about doing it under warranty, but you have to remember that the manual does specifically state that you shouldn't use any CD-R or CD-RW discs, and if you have and that's what's jammed it then I think they could rightly refuse to do it...

Self test is started by holding down buttons 3 and 6. I often get Err 3 and 4 but self test always passes.

I still have no problems with the copied discs. But I was wondering if copied discs that cause the CD ERR have had sticky labels on. Mine are either printed direct to the face of disc or if I have been in a rush Felt Tip penned on. I think the sticky labels increase the thickness of the discs too much.
My father has a Home sound sytem by Sony with a similar system for loading discs I just spent last Sunday extracting a disc that he had stuck a label on.
I would advise for the time being do not use copied discs that have labels on
Comercial CD's are printed direct to disc. Of course my earier advice of NOT starting the car , or turning off the ign. with the "wait" (disc loading)on the radio lit still stands

I've been keeping an eye on my unit and I'm convinced its not the type of CD played, as I've had ERR 3 with originals and RW's, I think the unit ejecting mechanism is just too 'sensitive' or something, the ERR 3 only comes up when one is trying to eject the CD's, playing them is fine...cheers

There was me thinking "what are these people on about, there is no problem with the CD player in the ST", and then last night I went to eject a CD (which was a copy) and it made a lot of noise but no action for a minute then stopped with no CD coming out and ERR 3 coming up!

As I had a new CD to play I got rather angry and rammed an old CD in to the slot about half way then pulled it back out and it kick started the player and the jammed CD just popped out and ERR 3 went away!
The CD player has been working so far.

Hope the helps!
