on the other forum several people have had their cars rolled with just K&N filters, results were 159bhp, 161bhp and one with also a flexi pipe 163bhp. Pretty impressive improvements, i have spent £1800 on the Mountune 165 kit so whats going on here, any views anyone. I don't want to knock these results or the cars and well done to them, but would like to think the power delivery of my kit across the rev band is far superior even if not much difference in the final top end bhp result.

Steve,

I wouldn't worry too much about the effectiveness of your mountune kit. Its a very impressive package that provides real and proven gains over the range. In fact, this is why I'm so cautious over the 185 package as it just looks to be too top heavy.

Yes, you could get similar gains in power, across the band using off the shelf kit but what you are paying for with your mountune kit is development time, exclusivivity and most importantly, ford backing.

that was my exact thinking Steve when the kits were announced - a lot of cash for the extra bhp, but as Steve has said and as is evident from the reviews of others, it is far more about the driveability and delivery than just getting as much bhp as possible.

It is unique, I wouldn't feel too bad about it if I were you, I'd be surprised if mine came to over 160bhp with induction and a flexi but I doubt it will drive as well or deliver the fuel economy improvements as you have reported.

as you know steve i got 157bhp on my old ST with induction, flexi pipe and cat back and that was on the rollers mountune use to test all there cars.

my new 500 has the same upgrade as you and i can safely say that eventhough i have a few bhp more the new car drives better and i believe its due to the new calibration file and the components used.

it most certainly pulls much harder than the old one. RR figures are pub talk rubbish anyways and its about the whole experience of how it drives, how the power is being delivered etc etc. they spent 200 hours of development on the mountune kits and have made 300 individual changes to there ECU calibration file over the stock file.

Dal

I do agree with you guys, but the question still remains, do you feel it was worth the money ? Don't get me wrong, I'm not being critical here, just interested in your feelings on the matter.

yep I do, I mentioned the power delivery of mine but I don't have the benefit of previous mods while Dal has and he can make a better judgment than I can and has confirmed what I thought.
