My sidelights, brake lights, fog lights all work right. My main head lights however do not come on, so i assume that its the bulbs that have gone. However, as i got home n took my keys out and turned my lights off. On center of the dash(where it tells u what track cd u got on ect) it says something like....

"Home Safe
Lights on"

then the headlights only come on! which means it cant be the bulbs. I put me key in started the car and turned the switch and nothing apart from side lights.

anyone know what that is about?

many thanks in advanced

I think that the home safe lights use the full/main beam bulbs.

Have you checked to see if they work? (even just flashing them)

I wouldn't have thought that the two bulbs would blow at the same time - more likely a problem with the fuses or the switch I'd think.

Home safe lights use the dipped elements so it shows that they are working.

Have you got auto lights?

Does the high beam flash work when you pull on the inducator stalk?
Does the blue tell tale light illuminate in the cluster to show when the high beam is working?

Home safe lights only come on if you turn the lamps to headlamps then off again within 3 seconds so you must have flicked the switch.

Its got to be a programming issue or an issue with the switch itself.

The fact that the lights work when in homesafe shows that the bulbs and fuse are ok.

Get it into ford as its very dangerous and worse still, people will think you're a chav driving with foglight and sidelights

OK it sounds like the indicator stalk has gone then.

If the home safe lights are working and the side lights turn on when you open the car (welcome lights) then that shows there is no fault with the lamps themselves or the GEM.

The switch isn't expensive (if you're out of warranty) so don't panic.

They are really easy to fit (it's a Ford)

I would just reccomend that if you have a friend with another similar Fiesta (it doesn't matter if they haven't got a Fuel Computer) then see if they will let you borrow their stalk to try in yours.

If the problem goes away when you fit their stalk then you've solved it, if not then you need to look elsewhere for the problem but at least you haven't wasted money on a switch.

Hope this helps

thanks for the advice, i will look into that. I did a check lastnight to see if it would let me put my main beam on(ie pull the indicator stick towards me) when in safe lights and sure enuff they came on. u still reckon it could be the indicator stalk

Possibly that's why I've advised to fit a slave part first so that you don't waste your money.

If you have checked all the bulbs and fuses and sitches and still are having no joy then it's off to an auto electician I'm afraid.

Are you absolutely sure the bulbs are OK??

But the headlights aren't on the indicator stalk?! They're on the turny dial mounted above your right knee

I know that, but the "turny thing above your knee" just tells the GEM what you want it to do, the indicator stalk controls the high/low beam circuits.
