just been out in my brothers STI (2.5 old shape) and he has now done a 1000 miles ish so can start giving it some. Just shown me what 1st gear does, I can only describe it as powerful motorbike-like-pick up or going down the biggest drop on a roller coaster ! I was completely pinned to my seat, absolutely unbelieveable acceleration. A quick test of its torque too, 4th gear, pick up from 40mph, initially nothing happens then blast off, warp factor speed.
Sounds great, standard exhaust so quiet with a hint of whistle from the turbo.
If I had one I would just be caning it all day long just for fun.

yes the subaru imprez sti is a real car... I was on a short trip with the local rally champion and it was a mind blowing experience

They have amazing pick ups from start due to their 4 wheel drive but once rolling, they aren't as quick as you think they are.

At a car meet we raced a Scooby STi against an Evo 8... the evo was a little quicker but only fractionally... great cars... i'd like an evo out the two... but the Focus is going to be a beast

And they sound like they are miss-firing especially when they have a burberry ended 9" exhaust on.

sti's are a quick car and are good value for money but you guys miss out on some real bang for buck cars.
Over here ford make a large passenger sedan called the falcon. The falcon bears many preformance models but the best is the FPV F6.
4.0 straight six turbocharged. ZF Six speed Auto. Brembo Brakes.
Pwr 418 bhp, Torque 565 Nm. 0-100hph 4.79 seconds. It accelerates from 80-120kph faster the a 911 turbo. Has a 5 star safety rating, amd gets 23 miles to the gallon. All for $65,000AUD or about 28,000GBP.
Over here a STI costs about the same, but the FPV's and HSV's rule the roads.

If Ford Aus exported these to the UK i'm sure they would be a hit.
