Cold start problems

Just had the car back from the garage, apparently they have checked everything out including a fault code check. Over the last week in the mornings the temprature has been around 2C and when starting the car I can hear whats sounds like running water from the dashboard. The car starts ok but the revs sit eractically bewteen 1600 and 900 up and down, if I try to pull away the car stalls. After a fews minutes the noise goes away the car can be driven and is perfect in every other way.
Any help would be great, I know theres a problem and a garage telling me theres not is not getting to the bottom of it, more like they cant be bothered spending the time finding it.
Cheers John

Throttle body, Hego sensors, Coil Pack, Plugs.
Who checked it out?

Had it into my decent local, never had the car at Fraud in its life dont trust them. The items you suggest would they just cause a problem when the cars cold as once the car has warmed up everythig is fine. On a mild day the cars fine just when its been really frosty over night.
Cheers

It might be that you're running on cheap supermarket fuel?? I went to Asda the other night(in the wife's Focus) out of tightness because it was 92.9p per litre. By the time I got home the idle was all over the place like you describe. Use BP or shell Does the car get much of a run out or do you do town driving? You may need to give it a bit of a blow out.

Thanks for the reply, I only have a problem when the cars cold, after 3-4 minutes everything is fine. Dont use supermarket petrol either but I do a lot of town driving.

Just the first start in the morning when its generally 2c or below, cant work it out myself. Have topped up the coolant as that was running a little low and the cars been fine since. Unfortunatley the morning temp has been very mild the last week or so.
Like I say when it does happen after 2-3 minutes its all ok, and like you say on the second start its fine.

Have you had the ECU Update installed on your car yet?

I have no idea its a 54 plate...took it in for its service the other Ford want 160quid to replace front pads and 135 for the back!!
I think you have to ask them but this is a common fault with the ST's. Do you notice after short journeys that when you go to restart your engine it doesn't work?

Well during my last full service i asked them to check for ECU Updates and once they had updated it, i haven't had a problem since. This should resolve this problem.
