does anyone no much about engine remapping what the likely gains are if any ? does it effect fuel consumption etc ? not something i no much about but keep seeing plenty of ads in the usual car magazines what are the likely costs ? anyone on here had there remapped

The main options you have are bluefin and dreamscience. I think most go the route of dreamscience but not sure that there is any real difference. Both of these units are effectivly re-programming the orriginal ford ECU so no issues with warrenty like people used to see with 'chipping' their cars.

I think both units come with a few map (levels of tune) and I think you can get custom maps for these but most would be happy enough with the standard maps

I believe you can also load a "blank map" as a security measure too.

The difference bettween chipping and mapping is this.

Chipping is replaceing the ROM chip that holds the enigne calibration file that the ECU's micro processor uses to run the engine.. this was done back in the old days because ecu's only had a ROM (Read only memory) chip. therefore u could not recalibrate/map the ecu.. u had to write a file to the chip.

Mapping is adjusting the ECU's calibration file in real time becuase modern OE and aftermarket ECU's run EPROM (Erasable/Programable read only memory). This can be done using dreamscience.

Esentially though, dreamscience/bluefin are in my opinion chip mods as u are loading an generic map, not a custom map to your car.

In my opinion you should always custom map, on the rollers to MBT (Mean Best Torque) to get the correct fuel/ignition maps for your engine, with your mods on your car.

hi everyone, i gathered this is the best place for the info i need, i have recently just got a fiest st, want to add a miltek flexi and also k and n 57i, pumaspeed state this will add 10bhp, also i want to remap, will a remap affect my vehicles warrenty? or can i simply put the map back to standard withouth them knowing? ive seen a blue fin on ebay at 300 notes
