Anyone got an idea with how much petrol left does the warning light come on? I checked the manual but it doesn't give any figures. My fuel consumption is quite good, 1st tank: 8,3l per 100km (combined cycle). cheers

I had thought that the warning light came on when there was about a gallon left in the tank, but then I don't know if you saw the thread on here about the Autocar magazine long-termer, but they reckon you can get a good 50 miles more out of it even once all the bars on the fuel gauge have disappeared. I haven't tried going that distance, but I've so far managed to get a good 20 miles more out of it even when the guage is completely empty!

I should probably to his bravery here. Any time the warning light comes on (not just in my st but with previous cars as well) I immediately start panicing as to finding somewhere to fill up!

There's nothing more humilating than running out of petrol though!

i managed to fill up with 41.5 litres while on the last part bar on the gauge... this is out of the maximum 45 lts i believe, and the fuel light still hadn't come on ...which worried me a bit!!!!! I would guess unless my fuel warning light is shafted that when it does come on you will probably not have many spare miles roughly 20 - 25 at best before the tanks empty!!!!!

I filled up yesterday and managed to get 39.6 litres in my tank. All the bars had dissapeared and i had done about 10 miles since the last bar had gone. The mileage when i filled up was 244 miles, by my calculations that is about 27 miles per gallon (just over). Im not very impressed by it but then again.....i didnt buy the to worry about how much fuel im putting into it!

The lad at the petrol station commented on my car as well which was nice. He had a Fiesta 1.4 and loved the ST but couldnt afford one.

I usually fill up when the warning light comes on and get about 40/41 litres or just over in. The tank is a 50 litre tank so should have about 9 litres left which would be good for about 60 miles.

Hi Freestyle

I think the tank is a 45L one?? so just be careful, so maybe only about 30 miles.

cheers

I had thought it was a 50 litre tank too but stand corrected. That would go some way to explaining why the overall range of the ST isn't that great.

I've been too scared to go more than a couple kays with the light on... I've run out in my corsa, and felt like a right toff...
Everytime I fill up I'm really surprised at how little petrol is going in, seems the fuel gauge is pretty conservative.

It might be worth looking in your handbook,I wouldn,t expect British cars to be different from others but you never know.

Dear SJ

The Petrol Light is conservative (mine anyhow), my last 2 tanks I filled up immediately after it came on and the one time it took 37.8L & the last time 38.5L, so ya, one should be able to do quite a bit more distance once the light has come on...but dont be too brave, cheers

What you filling up with? I've become very partial to Sasol Turbo Unleaded...
