Does anyone know of any good car insurers which specialise in Fiesta ST's?

try greenlight, they're specifically for "hot-Hatches" and similar cars. They have been known to give great quotes. www.greenlightinsurance.com Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for this info. I'll give them a go and hopefully they'll better my existing quotes!

never made a claim with them, so can't comment on that, easy to deal with and no probs with mods, bit slow with getting paperwork out and it could be clearer too. Not the cheapest neither.

I have never understood this extra charge for paying by DD ! what for, all companies what you to do this for their convenience certainly not mine, I refuse to pay it and just pay full amount up front.

I always pay mine up front for the same reason. However... and I don't like to defend insurers... there is a simple reason as to why you pay more if you pay by direct debit over 12 months, namely that effectively you're taking out a loan off the insurance company to pay it. To look at it from their point of view, if you pay upfront then the money is sitting there in their bank, or being used for paying claims etc. If someone pays up to 12 months in arrars then they haven't got that money, and are either losing interest, or getting money elsewhere to meet claims - hence why anyone who pays over 12 months pays interest.

If you can afford to pay it in one go, then obviously it is better to pay upfront, but it does provide an option for people who can't. Whether you'd be better off borrowing from elsewhere where you may pay less interest is a different matter of course.

last time I tried Norwich union, it was an overseas call centre and langauge barrier was an issue, so with something as important as getting it right with car insurance in case they try to wangle out of a claim - I ended the call there and then.
