Hi All

What are your opinions on petrol additives, I know in general they are a no no, but when I still had my A3 the guys were quite keen on adding injector cleaner every few tanks to keep injectors clean...what say you? cheers

Well Ive used them a few times in my Puma and they did seem to 'clean up' the fuel lines, the car felt a bit more responsive - not more powerful, just more like it'd been given a service.

however.. and it may be conincidence, on 2 occasions we have put in my partners vauxhall corsa (ha ha yes funny I know) and the 1st time the head gasket went and the 2nd time it didnt want to start! lol

I guess it all depends on the quality of fuel you use really. If its not up to much out in SA then its probably worthwhile, but most of the UK stuff is perfectly ok (particularly if you use Optimax or BP Ultimate) without having to put any additives in.

hmm...i'm pretty sure the quality of petrol out here is as good as the stuff you get there, although the diesel leaves much to be desired.
I'd steer clear of any aftermarket stuff Jos, and stick with the fuel that has been formulated in the lab and proportioned correctly (in our case, Sasol Turbo Unleaded is a good example).

I thought that most fuels have cleaners etc added as a matter off course during manufacture. When the fuel system on my diesel escort bunged up after 220000K,Ford cleaned out the whole system with some kind of gunk but it was not a fuel addative.

I wrote to Sasol, they say the sasol unleaded still has heavy metals in, but by Jan 2006 all unleaded petrol in SA MUST be heavy metal free, cool, guess I'll be going over to Sasol Turbo in Jan 2006 then...cheers
