been trying for a couple of months now to wire in my amp to the sony gen 2 head unit ive now been told theres no way my head unit can come out now without breaking it as the release mech is broken ive traced back the wiring loom but under the seat theres wiring going across what i think is the top of the fuel tank is these the wires supplying the rear speakers as it would be perfect to cut into???? i dont wanto be cutting into something thats gonna damage my car
thanks!

I'm not sure, but it maybe more useful to everyone to change the thread title to "Radio & Sub Help" or something

There must be a way to get the head unit out, although it may involve taking a section of the dashboard away. Also, you may need a separate level controller supplying the amp or you'll have no control over the level of bass.

nope there not the wires for the rear speaker i dont particuly want to take the rear door cards off as i know something will go drasticuly wrong and there isint enough cable on my transformer box to wire it in there i havent got enough leverage from the wring loom to cut in there but i have noticed when u take the glove box out u have wires taped up on the left hand side which have the violet coloured wires could these be where i can cut into???
cheers

I fitted my sub to a sony gen 2 head unit. Well not exactly as i tapped into the rear speakers. Sound quality still is very good. You bring the power cable down the passenger side. Remote wire also goes down that side and run that into the fuse box. Preferably the audio fuse (the smaller of the 2) then bring the rear speaker wires into the boot area. You will need an RCA convertor. This allows you to plug in the speaker cables and then run the RCA leads to the amp. The RCA convertor costs around £25. I put mine in with the spare wheel area so it looks tidy.

Hope this helps mate. Its the only way without taking out the stereo. As I said mine works perfectly. If you need to know what colour cable is positive and negative let me know as i have the info.

I dont really have any pictures I will get some for you in the week. Which specific bits were you after? I might be able to explain it instead.

The rear doorcards come out very easily only trouble is you have to remove the rear seat. Its only a couple of screws though, and use a trim removal tool for the doorcards. I put the junction in next to the rear speaker. Its easy enough. Took me about 4 hours from start to finish.

did you tee into both rears or just the 1? as the rca convertor only has about 50mm of cable for teeing im really dreading to take the door card of as it looks like it will affect the door seals and i dont want anything to snap lol as thats my warrenty down the drain cheers for your help btw!

Put it this way. My car is an 08 plate and was about 3 months old when i ripped it apart. The clips are made to come off again. They just clip on and off. As for the RCA convertor. I used some speaker cable courtesy of Halfrauds. You will need to take it off both sides.

I presume you have run the power and remote down the side sill? You will need to remove the door seal but it goes back on easy enough. Best bit of advice I can give you is to make sure you take your time and fully insulate connections, strap the wires down so they do not rattle against the body work.

mines a 08 model too ive got the power cable running through the bulkhead from battery and down the sill into the boot i thought the remote could just go in the converter box as it looks as if its got a remote out??? or would that just constantly power the amp on and not turn off :s how did you wire into the fuse box???
gonna brave it and try the door cards tomo night if weathers ok lol

this is what i got cheap and cheerful

What do you need to wire into the fusebox for?

You possibly could, I was only saying what I did and it works so thought I mite as well let you know that you COULD do that if you couldnt think of anywhere to put the remote.

Sorted it yet?
