just a quick question when the car has just been turned on in the morning and is cold and idling at about 1100RPM, the 1st thing i have to do is reverse off my drive... but when putting the car into reverse i get a crunch or grinding noise, but once the car has warmed up and is idling correctly it goes in fine. is it something normal or should i get it checked?

normal, stick it in 3rd (every time) then go straight to reverse, seems to help.

Mine does this too. I really have to engage reverse slowly to eliminate any crunching!

Probably 99.999% of does this! Including mine! But only once in a while for me.

Aslong as I'm completely stationary mine is fine straight into reverse

i normally depress the clutch a couple of times before trying reverse when cold, seems to work a treat!

I just put mine into first then straight into reverse - never a crunch then.

Its when the gearbox oil is cold and the clutch has expanded slightly in the cold.
I often find that as above stick it into third first or I normally just depress the clutch and hold it for 2 secs and then engage reverse. There is a crunch yes, and I have spoken to several Ford and non-Ford techies and they say that the crunch is a common thing in Fiesta's and Foci.
