I have the clutch spring squeak and steering column knock. Both of these started shortly after 1000 kms. Also, the window rubbers (outside, where they seal against the roof section) squeak slightly when driving.

I wouldn't call any of these showstopper problems, though - although they can be mildly annoying. If Ford knows of any fixes, I will be keen to have them done.

Hi scoobie .... i've read your post, you've got a few probs as well.

Fault of the week this week is a click noise when pressing the brake pedal slightly.

Sounds like a relay click.... probably the contact pin sticking on the way out of the brake light switch.

Regarding the squeaky clutch. i spoke to me local dealer on Saturday and he said that Ford was aware of this reoccuring problem in the Apprantly the technical bods at ford are working on a solution and that those concerned will be contacted and the car will be recalled with all works being carried out free of charge (i should bloody well hope so). This could maybe done when in for a service.

I would suggest to all those concerned that they contact their local dealer so that they can make a note on the file and be recalled when the sollution is found.

I will keep you all posted as to progress and i hope that this helps all those concerned.

Hey Michael,

Very very intresting reading your comments. As basically ive been having similar issues.
I got my ST last monday and noticed some of these problems straight away.

Funnily enough whilst reading this, my ST is at the dealers getting a "clink" noise coming from the drivers side front wheel fixed, when pulling away either in reverse or 1st and sometimes carries on up to 4th gear.
It sounds like a small spring getting caught up in something and then releasing causing a loud "PING" noise and sometimes it repeatedly pings.
Drove a mechanic round and he seems to think there is something rattling under the wheel arch but hes never heard of it before
Ill let you know later today if it has been fixed.

I also find when changing gear it revs up a bit but today i am using a Fiesta Flame as a hire car and noticed it does in that as well so i presume its just a fiesta thing.

Other then that no problems and was suprised not to find more irritating squeaks or rattling.

Ooooops . . . .

Also got the "clink" starting today! It kind of sounds like a giant relay clicking . . . happens mainly in first gear pull away. It also happens if I pull away, then abruptly release the throttle so that the engine brakes the front wheels. It's not subtle if I open the driver's side window.

Please let me know what happens, Tim!

I'm dreading taking my car in and have them poke away for a few days or something . . .

What I will say is that I'm definitely NOT having any revving problems. The engine does tend to over-rev very slightly on shifts *while the car is warming up* (I presume this is some kind of automatic choke?). Once warm, all is well.

The clink noise is the wrong type of grease on the wheel bearing causing a slip/ stick effect.

To resolve it needs a new wheel bearing and to be greased.

The spring noise from the clutch pedal has gone since it was lubricated.

The over reving needs the PCM reprogramming.

had a phone call today from them, the car wasnt ready to picked up today but should be getting it back tommorow.

What they told me was that it needs a replacement wheel bearing on the drivers side rear wheel.
Which is strange as i swore it was coming from the front side so i am a bit dubious as to whether this will sort it out.

Will let you know

All clear now, they were right and the wheel bearing has been replaced and the noise has now gone!

They also refitted side stripes as i had some wonky stripes that i wasnt happy with when i first got it.

Plus they threw in some of the official mats for the ST for my troubles.

Well happy!
