They told me if I continue to change gear too quickly it'll become worse and worse.

Da-Daah (Puff of smoke)

I'd have to agree about the changing gear too quick idea TBH.

It is only a shitty IB5 gearbox picked up out of a Ka afterall. That has been in production with only a few upgrades since 1982.

Just make sure the shift cables are fully lubricated both at the shifter and the gearbox end.

Surely if the gearbox couldn't handle quick gear changes (and we're only talking sprint-from-traffic-lights quick, not I'm-a-professional-racing-driver quick) it would have been a problem from the start. But it's started crunching gears only recently. And with only cca 10k miles on the clock I would have thought it would still be plenty lubricated?

The grease dries up, spray both ends of cables with chain lube or spray grease (motorcycle stuff) and it works a treat.

Done mine twice already - 12,000 miles.

On the gearbox at the front you will see a black box next to the reverse lamp switch, carefuly unclip the box lid and spray the cables with lube while someone is moving the selector through all the gears (inc reverse)

Gearshift end is a matter of lifting the console lid up.

OK, thanks for the tip mate. To be honest I doubt that's the problem but it's worth a go though.
