i was wonderng if anybody would be able to give me advice on a engine system fault and abs fauilure light i have on my 57 plate ST.

after my car steering failed on me i instead of turning hit a curb at around 35mph. This damaged my alloy, strut, hub and drive shaft etc on one tyre. after been replaced by brand new ford parts I now have a engine system fault and a ABS failure warning lights showing. What could be causing this as the car is now up and running?

the engine failure light appeared as soon as the car hit the curb.

does this mean the mechanic hasnt fitted the parts correctly or is it a matter of just getting ford to take the lights off on the diagnostic machine?

thanks guys

It's fine that they have replaced the damaged components, but did you ask them why your steering failed in the first place, there may be a fault deeper down that they aren't looking for.

I would take it back asap and ask them the question.

the problem is is that the enine warning lights and abs lights have only come on once the car hit the curb. the power steering fault was the reason the car hit he curb and was diagnosed (and suppossedly fixed) by a ford dealership a few weeks earlier.

the hub, drive shaft alloy, have been fixed by an indepndant garage as ford are not taking responsibility now for my steering failure, and i therefore wanted it repairing as chaeply as possible as ford charge silly money as it isnot covered by the warranty (as i was my fault according to them)

however wha could the reason for these warninglights be i hope its nt a serius problem as the bill is around 800 already.

If you don't want to get ripped off for a diagnostic check, you can always get yourself a fault code reader: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110343907193

That is the one I own and it works with the ST just fine Cheaper than the £70 an hour that Ford charge

Sounds like either the whhel speed sensor was damaged on impact or it hasn't been re-fitted correctly.

If you're in the AA etc you can call them out when you have a light on and they will diagnose and reset for you.

Why didn't you clain off your insurance for the damage?
If you had mentioned to your claims dept. that the steering had failed due to alleged poor repair by Fod then youe legal cover would/will start legal proceedings against them.

My brother had a Focus ESP back in 2001 and it had to go in for a recall to have the ABS module replaced.
They broke the PAS resevior doing the work and the PAS failed on him the day after getting the car back.
I don't know what the full outcome ever was, he won't say but he sued and got his money back for the car.

You should contact the legal team from you insurance, that's what you pay all that money for.
Go and see the service manager at the dealer and the dealer principal and inform them of your intentions, you may be suprised.
