Since I've had my car, sometimes when I go to unlock it I have to pres the button 3 or 4 times, and the boot button hardly works at all, if ever. It a bit annoying as it was pelting down last night and I was trying to get in quickly I got soaked!
Does anyone else had this problem? Its a pre-facelift. And yes, I've already changed the batteries before someone suggests it

Change the Ba... oh.

Give Ford a call and get them to advise you. Sounds like your FOB unit is failing. AFAIK when you press the button a code is transmitted, so if the car is not picking up the transmission it could be a weak signal from the FOB.

I have the same problem with mine Ive been into ford to ask about it and they told me that it regularly occurs to most fords and that 9 times out of 10 its the key thats on its way out and not the battery. And apperently the only solution is a new key, and if like me your car only came with 1 key its not cheap

Key or Fob?

The battery could be crap though that you put in.

Did you get it from Ford or Halfrauds?

I'd try another battery first.

If you're too far away when you start pressing you can confuse it and you have to keep pressing to catch the code back up again.

Also the GEM has a battery saver device and if the car is stood for long periods or the car battery is low it goes into storage mode and requires five presses to operate the system.

Make sure the voltage on your car battery isn't falling below 11 volts

My ST is the 3rd new style ford i have owned, every one has rubbish key fob recognition, i resign myself to pressing the buttons a few times as i get close to the car before she will open ( bit like my experience with women actually! )

Any ideas how to reprogramme them so it unlocks just the drivers door first press?

Set mine to do this one press unlocks the drivers door, two presses unlocks both doors.

Owners manual States the following

"Press and hold the unlock and lock buttons simultaneously for at least four seconds with the ignition switched off. The direction inidicators will flash twice to indicate that the unlocking function has been successfully reprogrammed"

to put it back you just do it again

I've always found that it doesnt work if you stab it, though if you hold it down for like a second or so, it works every time?

Without reading all the posts.

I have the same problem with my silver Focus keyfob. The battery has to match the + and - points and when it turns around (as its circular) it doesn't work properly. I've gave up now and just unlock the doors and boot with the key... Not paying £160 for a new keyfob.
