hi all, im having a debate with a freind of mine, he rekons that when i get my new rs he will be faster than me in his new megane 250 wen he gets one after they come out later this year, the megane has 340nm of torque produced higher up than the rs and only 250bhp, is it possible?? he thinks it will be quicker round a track and he rekons he will keep with me in a straight line??? i said the r26r is only able to come close because its stripped out 0-100mph the r26r is slower. any thoughts?? also is it true ford are making a limited number of rs's??? ford dealers ive spoke to seem to say its not true, but otehrs say it is, is it a scare tactic???

Oh god.. dare I say anything on this? lol *ahem* ... ok.. I'm a Ford fan remember BUT not a badge snob and can see the advantages/plus points in other marques.. /wave white flag I dont know too much about the 250 when it comes out but I'd say the R26.R is the one that on track will beat the RS. In the lastest edition of CAR magazine they took the RS, the R26.R and Golf GTI to the Ring and the R26.R they had was the quickest followed by the RS and then the Golf (brakes intact too!). Ok taken form the Renault Sport site and whatnot about the 250: Quote:
The 2-litre 16-valve turbocharged petrol engine now boasts maximum power of 250hp at 5,500rpm and peak torque of 340Nm from 3,000rpm, an improvement of 20hp and 40Nm over the previous Mégane Renaultsport R26. The Renaultsport engine's twin-scroll turbo is exceptionally responsive and is particularly responsive at lows revs, with 80 per cent of maximum torque available from just 1,900rpm
Whereas the Focus RS is apparently (few quick websearches):
Quote:
300bhp at 6,500rpm, 440 Nm of torque from 2,300 to 4,500rpm.
0-60 the RS does 0-60 in 5.9 seconds and the R26.R does it in 6 seconds so there's nothing in it there. I cant find a 0-100 for the RS. Do you know it?
In a nutshell almost every single review I've seen has said the R26.R is the faster car and is the real drivers car but the RS is also able to be an everyday/family car too which is the fundamental difference behind them. Despite the power advantage, the light weight, stripped out, same engine ethos won the day on the track. Dont forget the RS and the R26.R are going head-to-head in Top Gear in a week or two so that'll be good to see. Hammond in the R26.R and Clarkson in the RS.
The 250? I have no idea but I dont think its going to be a slouch by any means.
As for a "hot" RS? Mmmm doubt it very much.

I actually heard a 07 plate Citroen falling apart as it went around a corner today... I think all french cars do this. To cut my potentially long and boring reply short. The R26.R or R26.R.R.R.R.250.R.R is still french, it only has 2 seats, no comfort, will break your spine and also make people hate you for looking such an idiot with a roll cage. The is a comfortable, 5 seat family car that you can get your shopping... or in my case, IKEA flat packs in and also listen to music with the AC on and still have a luxurious but seriously fast car. I don't think this is really a debate... it's really a question of if you want to get out your car having to explain why you have a silly roll cage or just make people go... wow it's an

lol i dont know the 0-100 on the 250 but where did you get its 6 seconds to 60 from??? renault have yet to release this info. also i know the r26r is faster round track and up to 60 but not past that point nor top speed, but as said i want a 5 seater big comfy car thats cheap to fix, i.e ford lol im getting the rs for everyday use, if it was a track focused car i wanted then even i know the r26r is the best as it beat the rs round the nurburgring. but in my books it cant be compared its not actually a car of the same function for example r26r has a roll cage and no back seats, and if im right it has no luxary items in it either?? and yes scotty i want people to go wow its an rs lol a green one at that, also even tho r26r is the faster car, everyone! has acclaimed the focus rs as the number one king of all hot hatches to date, in front of the r26r just because what the r26r lacks in comfort, driveability and everyday usefullness kind of rules it out as a hot hatch, more of a hot track car

/sigh... oh well I tried.. /shrug Azz - The info is widely available via this wonderful medium called "the internet". If you actually were genuinely interested or curious rather than going down the "errr its french!" route and read what I said then you would have seen the 0-60 I quoted (and I said so) was for the R26.R I totally agree though that the R26.R and the RS differ in the track focused car vs a fast big car that you can hoon about in and get the kids & Ikea stuff in. ALL reviews have said this up to this very moment. The ethos/idea/point behind them is just different. Oh and whats that button in the car? Oh yes... Climate Control optional extra (with AC as standard). Whats that in the middle of the console? A radio. Soooo.. seats, climate control or AC (the choice is yours), folding wing mirrors (if its "luxuries" you're picking over), a radio and a fast car. I'm sorry if I come across as harsh but for once I'd like a sensible discussion on this forum but its impossible I was only trying to help Azz by giving out facts but yet again they are just ignored because I dared to talk of something else that isnt Ford.

You can talk about what ever car you like... We all like Dave's Alfa Mito so there can be more than just fords talked about. I think it's pointless comparing the 250 or R26.R to the Focus as they are completely different cars and have completely different purposes. The Renault's may well be very good cars... I will respect the engines will be extremely good and rattle on forever but the built quality is just not upto the mark in my personal experience. The is built to go on forever also but also has a nice cabin and added features... it's not built solely for the track... if you wanted one that was then you'd take a trip to M-Sport and get one from there... which would be extremely expensive and be silly fast. I think it's a sensible conversation... it doesn't matter what I say... they are my views... many may well agree or disagree with me.

im not biased lol, but my so called friend has a new 08 twingo gt and the interior is absolute dog crap, the stereo is absolute poo cack too, and it has as much cabin detail and niceness as the inside of a white bin liner! lol, and the 0-60 time for the r26r is about 5.8 .7 not above the fords 5.9. magazines say its slower and have actually tested it to be faster than the rs 0-60

Found that the 0-60 time varys from place to place for the RS Found 5.9 secs and 6.4 secs
Is the megane 250 going to be a stripped out light weight?
TBH theres probably not going to be much difference in it, so the difference in 0-60s could be 0.5sec but you might not see that advantage if your 2 adverage drivers.

No the 250 wont be stripped out but thats not to say there wont be another "R" version. Who knows.
Azz - omg I truly detest the interior of the Twingo. Ick! True cheapness right there.

So I take it you can get an R26 which isn't stripped out then?
The Twingo...just no
