why are my caps which were brand new not so long ago all marked on the edges, they have never been touched by a garage and I am careful and only take them off and on at the one single correct point. It seems they get marked as you drive, how ? why ?

Does looks slighting white at the edges?
Looks like mine have sort of started peeling away from the plastic

yep little white bits, like you have overpolished the edges and cut through the paint. I'm sure the paint is thin on these but still, they don't move or turn and it's more on the outer edge which is not abutting the wheel so no rubbing ?

Is it that they don't fit just quite right? We know of course that they do come off by themelves fairly easily by the amount of people who have lost them while driving rather than having them stolen. On that basis they may well be vibrating slightly and it's from this that the rubbing occurs.

They do SUCK indeed!

...It was a bad idea for to make them in the first place. Just another thing to charge us for when they come off

No wonder people change their alloys. I bought 4 centre caps when I got the car so I have spares but now I'm stuck for changing to different alloys

Could it be down to the expansion properties of plastic when heated??

I know my discs get very hot so could this simply be a case of the plastic expanding and the super thin layer of paint cracking?

Sounds like a good theory. The heat could definitely be the cause imo

dunno about this ? rear discs hardly apply percentage-wise, so can't be heat, vibration might be the reason as they hardly press-firm-fit do they !
The paint on the edges isn't actually marked, it is just not there, very much like when you polish the edge of something and polish your way through the paint.
How about some large DMB Gel Badges in their place ?

mine are the same, even my replacement ones have gone the same way!

I suspect its just thin paint that has lead to them cracking and coming off. I tried taking them off and hand washing them in a bucket of water rather than brushing them on the wheel as I feared that might be the cause. However the new ones still showed the same problem just as quickly as the originals! Just gotta live with it I suppose, if I start showing i'll by a spare set just for shows.
