I was just checking how much I'll have to pay at the end of the month as my tax expires and am annoyed that if it was 5g/km less we would all be in a lower tax band

Plus we are in Band 'I' which at the moment is £175 a year, as from next year it will be £200! And as from next year they are also starting a new scheme where you pay more for the 1st year of ownership, then a bit less for the rest of the life of the car, so Band 'I' will be.... £300! for the 1st year then back down to £200 (I think) for the rest Unlucky for ppl if buying a new car next year with high Co2, but I suppose not many new cars will have such high Co2 Its all here New Tax's

I wouldn't mind but the roads are in a terrible state around here so where is my money going

Well said, Steve. We do even less (around 4000) so we pollute less than many smaller engined cars that do the average mileage of 10-12k. But be careful what you wish for. This government (and the green lobbyists who call their tune) would LOVE to have you filling in forms to justify your driving and proving your mileage. The next step would be to 'pre-book' all your car journeys....

Steve, you hit the nail on the head I don't do the 'average' miles either

Also can a site mod rectify my spelling mistake in the thread title and then delete this sentence

i have always though road tax should be on usage ie on fuel then scrap the rent in the window that way you pay for what you use

I have said the same thing for a long time. how can it be fair if you do say 4000 miles a year and someone else does 100,000 miles a year but you both pay the same.

If it was put on fuel it would also mean any foreigners coming over from france etc would pay the road tax and no one would get away without taxing their car

Indeed, how much is spent each year enforcing road tax evaders from this country? I know one of the reasons used in the past is that it ensures that people insure and mot their car since they need this in order to tax it, but the figures for uninsured cars on the road seem to suggest this doesn't have an effect. In any case with all the ANPR about these days the police should be able to instantly tell which cars shouldn't be on the road.

We have a house near us with 2 cars outside, both untaxed. It really annoys me One is a people carrier, the other a suzuki, they keep them on their
home made drive. One of them is used everyday at least 2-3 times per day. One morning I saw the untaxed van coming down our road and thought good, they must notice this car, but when I came home from work the car was still there no notices on or anything
I don't know how they slipped the net?? It's still driven daily, it's so annoying
Bet they wouldn't have ignored it, if it was my car!!

You can send an e-mail to DVLA to inform them that the vehicles are being used regularly and they will track them.

If the cars are declared SORN then if they're parked off road when not in use they are comitting no offence which is why they are slipping through the net.

I have reported loads and loads of people for using cars with no tax with no regrets whatsoever, why should I have?, I pay mine.

If they've got no tax they've normally got no insurance either.
