That's really good Stu. I'm currently paying about the same (after spending a full day shopping around in order to get a quoote that low) and I'm almost 30!

I've been with Elephant for years with 6 years no claims (i'm 27) and they quoted me £600 when i bought mine 2 weeks ago.

I'm now Sainbury's bank who undercut them by about half.

I think it all comes down to loyalty etc family have been with privilege for years we get multi car discount and all sorts, and to be fair I have no idea how they work it all out, I got quoted £4790 by one of the companies on compare! Ridiculous, but really happy with Privilege, easy to speak to and can't do enough for you, even got a years AA cover for £15!!!!!! Well impressed!

One thing I've found with insurance is that you also need to check the excess you will pay if you claim, when I recently renewed I wanted to lower my excess, unfortunately this did rather increase the price of the quote but if I ever need it hopefully it will be worth paying the extra rather than paying for something I can't use unless the car is written off.

I ended up with Privilege as well but noticed they put a compulsory excess on for drivers under 25 but in balance were the best quote for me.

For the younger persons on here....check how much it costs to put under your own and parents name if you want to do it that way
As some come out cheaper either way for me

I've found that insurance companies do pay attention to where you keep your car overnight, might be cheaper to hire out a garage/lockup or boot your dads Renault scenic out of the garage!!

if you add your parents as named drivers that can help to lower premiums in most cases

If they're still not good at updating their records now then that might be a good reason to avoid them. Someone said on here a little while back that Adrian Flux no longer send out paper copies of your insurance certificate and you should print a copy out if necessary (although I've already read of people with SwiftCover having problems with the police refusing to accept home printed copies since they don't look genuine). Adrian Flux had apparently said it isn't a problem anyways since everyones insurance details are on the police database.

If they're not updating the system then it could cause big problems if you get pulled over since firstly it won't be on the database that you're insured, and secondly you won't be able to provide adequate documentation now to prove that you are either!

what do you guys think about getting protected no claims?

If i protect it will be £826...

If I don't it will be £682...

So i'd save £140 by not doing it!

I did a dummy quote where I had no no claims and it came out £1086... which is affordable if I was unlucky enough to have a crash or get it stolen. But then there is the peace of mind of having it protected. But apparently the premium goes up anyway regardless?

I personally would recomend it all the way.

My wife had some muppet in an uninsured VW 4 Motion slam into the back of her Sport KA and did a runner.
Even though we got the reg number, nothing came of it.

We got £2100 whiplash compensation, her car was repaired, £1800 worth of damage, and the renewal insurance the following year came down £40.

But you have to have at least 5 years NCD to apply for PNCD.

My Mrs is only covered for 2 claims in 5 years.

So there you go; It's not allways our driving, it's the w****rs that drive around in uninsured stollen cars that target us, if you know what i mean.

If you did that online, UNDER YOUR OWN NAME, you will get a message saying "please call our quote hotline" as they don't insure drivers under 21 on their online service

Oh, my bad! Yes you probably will! Just need to find the rite insurer for your age, for me at 21 Privilege is great, might not be that good for 19, but good idea to give them a call.

Its worth a try! Might save you a few pennies if you say to privilege "Admiral have quoted me this, now beat it" .....

haha oh! By then you will be nearly if not 20? Even easier to gain insurance! When you hit 21 things start looking brighter as far as insurance goes, 25 is the main milestone .....thats when I will be getting something ridiculous!

Don't forgot where you live has a big effect on what you pay.

I was shocked to find Stockport SK was the worst area in the country for car crime, and my postcode starts with an SK.

At the start of the year I had a quote for insuring an Aston Vanquish... £1100 a year
