Booked my Black in for a window tint this Friday. As advice what i should go for? Darkness etc? The bloke said you can't tint the front windows much so would be better to leave.

Yeah its illegal to tint the front windows a great amount, not worth doing. I would say for a black ST go for limo tints on the rear two and back window (back window) as it will look the business!

I have had my back 3 windows tinted limo, and my front 2 slightly tinted for over a year now and it looks sexy... never been pulled over...
IMO the fronts should be done slightly so it blends in with the rest of the car!

Examples below:
(Mine on the left!)

I hope you love your tints when they are done as much as I love mine!

Well the law states anything that lets in less than 70% light on the front windows is illegal, anything that lets in less than 70% but more than 30% is a £30 fine straight off and anything that lets in less than 30% is 3points. I would recommend that you get around 65% tint if you do the fronts but it is illegal so make sure you are aware of that.

Nice work, i get the feeling i should tint the fronts too (as much as poss) as it will look better, i take it the inside window decals that i've just put on will have to come off?

depends how they will tint the windows, if they use a tint film then yeh you will have to remove them and either put them back on or buy some new ones! I have been caught twice in two years for my tints and recieved £30 fines each time so i prewarn you, they are noticeable during the day and you cant put them down if its really wet...tried that one haha

Have they not made you take them off?
I know people who had to sit and remove them before they were allowed to carry on

The first time i got caught they tried to. I had mine done by a professional tint specialist who does competitions all around the world for it. Its impossible to get off without using the proper equipment. Even the police tried to but it is done so well you cant. So they told me to get it sorted within 24hours. The second time they just told me to get it removed and drove off lol

The Police don't care around here. I must be legal or it's been done right because they don't even batter an eye lid at me when I pass them and my car stands out lol! ...and they've been on the car for more than a year
Yeah just get them done well and professional like mine. Not dark and thick 'chavvy film' that cops will notice more!

i think i read somewhere what unless its stupid black all round eg limo on the front windows , then the police cant do anything about it as the machine they use has had so menny inacurate readings that they have pulled the plug on them , could be wrong tho , il go do some digging see what i can find out ,

edit : forget that ^^ i cant find anything to back it up and unless i do then dont get tints on your front windows lol

i do think people with limo black tints on the front should be fined , as it is only asking for trouble , i have light smoke on the front of the RS and at night time i do notace a difrence between the tinted glass and when i have the window down , and more than a light smoke on the front is mad imo! and just asking for you to pull out infront of a biker or something

You may get pulled because of it, depends on the officer. Traffic officers have the light meters and if it isnt one of them that pulls you then you are unlikely to get done for it. Most likely "Get it removed" and told to p*ss off, all being said it is a non-endorsable offence i.e you wont get points for it so the officer doesn't have to be 100% to issue one. So if you have blatently obvious tints and your an arse to the officer then you could still get a ticket .

Well the traffic police definately still use what they call the "Tint Man". It is an accurate laser that measures the amount of light going through a window. Everytime they have done mine they have got it pretty much accurate. Like i said earlier, most police will just tell you to take them off and wont do anything.

It all depends on who you get, traffic police carry them in their vehicles so be careful if they are nearby but normal police just turn a blind eye to it. Try not to get tints on your windscreen as you cant hide that and it is rather stupid. At least with your side windows, you can put them down.

Just as a quick reminder as to what the legal limits actually are...

Front windscreen 25% tint allowed.
Driver and passenger side windows 30% tint allowed.
All other windows, unlimited.

As clear glass cuts down some light anyways, you probably won't get away with much of a tint on the front windows.

Any recomendations on the level of window tinting a red ST pre facelift. Looking at tinting rear windows only, suggested 30%, would this be noticable???

Cheers
