My dad is an absolute idiot. Bought some new grooved discs for my ST and left them in a box in the garage until i had time to do them. Anyway he decides to clean out the garage at the weekend and throw them away...well luckily come to work this morning and find them in the skip all rusted up! Look completely rusted and old when they looked gorgeous brand new.

He keeps telling me once they are on the rust will wear off, true i know, but what about the rest of the disc that wont?

Can i use a wire brush to get all the rust off before i put the discs on or will it damage it?

a wire brush will do the trick just fine, on the other hand, dont be bothered they wont get any worse.. once theyr on it will only take a couple of miles to get the surface rust off them.

a wire brush wont damage your discs.. think of the immense pressure, heat and stress of a disc on your car..

Hope this helps

I've just been told by my mate definately not to use a wire brush to get the rust off because it will damage the surface of the disc and cause more problems than it's worth. Is this true?

No, a wire brush aint going to hurt it, look at the stick they get off the pads.
It will only be surface rust, wouldnt worry about it.

Scotch brite will not be as harsh as a wire brush but to be honest, just get the worst off and the pads will do the rest.

it should just be surface rust, but keep an eye on them for deeper pitting corrosion
