Havnt had a go in the 185 yet, but I think I got slaughtered by one today, traffic light GP Me 165 BHP, a Black ST, and a very played with BMW 530, off we go the BMW is lacking the initial pull but as the black ST starts pulling a slight 1/2 car length lead I notice the Mountune yellow Badge, oops I think we nail the cars through 2nd 3rd the BMs nowhare the Black ST has got 3-4 car lengths on me now up to 115 and I had to start braking hard, we stopped at the next set of lights, I screemed over to him 185, he just smilled, lights changed I turned left he turned right the BMW came through as if he hadnt used his brakes giving the w anchor sign I just laughed, if thats a 185 im having mine done it was real quick compaired to mine

However, one thing I cannot get used to is how lumpy it's at around idle. Through conversations with Mountune, they advised it's due to the performance cams. Even with nearly 10 years of driving experience, this has affected my driving ability in the lower rev range as it can stall quite easily. You need to ensure you give it some gas when pulling away etc

You'll find some days its fine other days its a little lumpy but like others have said this is what happens when you install cams of any brand. Sometimes you just need a touch more on the gas thats all.

For me when I went from 165 to 185 it didn't change my driving style at all in terms of pulling off and I'm yet to get close to stalling because of the upgrade but maybe thats because I knew the idle will be lumpy. Hell Dave at Mountune even reminded me what to expect compared to the 165.

Using the peak torque it has changed my driving style because I use the gears so I drive it a lot harder plus add a Quaife ATB diff and your singing around the track

I do believe Mountune will be offering a Quaife Diff fitting service soon but it won't be Ford warranty approved.

Glad your enjoying the upgrade Mounty!

I don't really know much about Quaife ATBs however, I understand that they power both drive wheels under nearly all conditions, instead of just one. Does that mean it'd give me better acceleration and if so, is it a major difference?

Its not quite a limited slip diff, but not far off. ATB stands for automatic torque bias. Basically, the standard diff is free rotating so power will allways be routed to the wheel with least resistance (the one that is already spinning). The ATB goes some way to making sure power is routed to the wheel that actually has grip to put it on the road.

You'll probably have noticed this type of slip when accelerating on full stearing lock?

Others say the kit isn't made for the normal roads. Again, I disagree because the cams don't kick in till later on therefore, fuel consumption is slightly better round town.

I was under the impression that more aggresive cams only go to worsen the fuel economy?

I think from everything i've read about the 185 kit so far, it sounds as though once you pull off the forecourt after having the upgrade you think, "s**t, i shouldn't have had this done, it's worse to drive!!" And then given an hour or two it begins to grow on you, until finally you love it :P
