Hi everyone
im new to the site, i came across the forum whilst trying to do some research on the net about a problem with my engine.
I brought a 07 st in silver a couple of months back with only 6000 miles on the clock, always wanted one but i feel a bit disapointed with it due to the problems im having. hoping some one on here may be able to help
here goes
its got a slight rough tick over not to the point were u can see it on the rev counter but u can feel it throu the car its as if there is a slight judder in the tick over, the car have been back to ford several time during which its had two water pumps but each time they cant find a problem. a couple of weeks ago i booked it in for its first mot a major service again they cant find anything wrong. but since its come back i now have a tappeting noise that comes and goes its always about 2500rev and seems to be worse around town. luckly one day it was doing it as i passed my local ford dealer so i niped in and got a mechanic to listen he said it could be a soft lifter. so again i booked it in, but sods law it was there all day and never did it once so they gave me the car back saying they couldnt find anything. my warrenty runs out in a few day and im worried that it could be something major wrong, has any one else had a simler problem ??????

The only problem i had with a tapping noise was when i was going to pull away in the car, the bearing in the auxillary belt tensioner went and made a tapping noise, would not do it on tickover, only when you went to pull away. Got replaced under warranty. The cam followers normally make a bit of a tapping noise when cold till the oil gets around. Have they checked the injectors because they can make a ticking noise.

It doesn't matter if the warranty is running out as you complained about the problem whilst still under warranty and have not had a satisfactory repair.

You could phone Ford customer support centre and speak to them and they will more than likely tell you to go to a different dealer to get it sorted.

Ask them to check that the catalyst hasn't collapsed inside (broke up).
Is it down on power?

iv since been back to my local bristol street ford and spoken to the service manger about the car, he came out and had a listen to the car and it was doing it slightly at about 2500-3500 revs. his reply was that its was nothing to worrie about as it was quiet. i said that it gets louder than that so again its been booked in on his say so for a noisy tappet for this coming friday. he gave me the number to ford customer support and told me to register the fault because my warrenty runs out today so that im covered. all along they have told me not to worrie because the fault has been before it runs out. well after a conversation to customer support it turn out that any work carried out on the car after the warenty has run out is not covered even if the fault has been reported before. only good thing is they have said they will come to some arrangment over the cost depending what they find friday. what this means i aint got a clue

hi dave t
the car doesnt seem to be down on power but then iv never owned a st before to compair it to.

hi tez
the car only does the noise when its hot the main time is stop start around town. i begining to wonder if they have put the wrong oil in when it was serviced or a duff oil filter that is not flowing correct ?????

Let us know what they find, did ford service the car if they did they should know what oil goes in it. Is the oil pump working ok and giving the right oil pressure.

ford serviced it about four weeks ago and it wasnt long after that i started to have problems. they also changed the water pump well it was in due to a small leak on it. im going to ask them to check the oil and filter. i think im gettin oil pressure because the oil light goes straight out. the car has now started with a back fire on the down rev when the tappets are noisy. lets see what they find this friday ????????

got my car back last night and at last they have found the fault. turns out its the tappets they need to be re shimmed or somthing like that. they need my car for three days to do the job and i need a courtesy car so its not going back in until the 24th march to have the work done. only down side is iv got no confidence in the car anymore, its turning into a bad luck car in the last 5 months iv had it. its had two water pumps rought tick over the tappets playing up and new screen after a brick cracked it oh and not forgeting the wife hit a parked car and there is a lovely srape and bent down the passenger side. which is due to go in be repaired. think i might change to a new shape fiesta before anything else goes wrong ?????? only good thing is my local ford has said the work needed is covered by the waranty, thank god

The rough tickover could be to do with the wrong valve clearences due to the wrong shim settings, see what it runs like with the tappets reshimmed.
