Just a quick one! ST failed to fire up last night and this morning,Engine fault light showing on dash, engine turns over but doesn't fire! Thinking no spark! Would like to test a few connections, leads and plugs, but wanted some expert guidance before, during and after. Is there a Haynes Manual or equivalent out there? If so does anyone have it in PDF format? Cheers

No Haynes Manual for the ST but I'm sure one for the 2L Mondeo (same engine) might do?

Thanks PinkRinse.
I was thinking that maybe the way to go, seen as its just an 2L Mondeo engine fault.
Now to find it on PDF, don't want the whole mondeo manual!

Probably the crank position sensor has gone down. Has it been playing up lately?

yeah it has, you need to pump the accelerator to get her to fire up.
Managed to just get her to fire up tonight and it fired up 3 times in a row with first turn of the key, just been out 5 mins ago and i'm having to pump the accelerator again, but she is now firing up!
Someone at work told me to disconnect the positive at the battery, leave it for 5 minutes or so and reconnect and the ECU should reboot itself! Didn't try it but is that correct?

Quite alot of people including myself press the accelerator to start it up sometimes (prefacelift)
But sounds a bit more in depth than just that if its firing up fault codes

Cheers Adam, glad its a common thing to press the accelerator on start up.
It is due a service in the next 3000 miles, so that may reveal and/or cure the problem.

Disconnecting the battery wont clear the ECU. Thats was true on the older models, but since 2005 on you need a code reader etc to reset the ECU.
Can anyone tell me how a garage would reset the ECU - my engine light comes on and diagnostics say code p0450 EGR Sensor Circuit low, but this was after the garage changed a clutch, and from reading other posts, I gather it's possible to knock the sensor out of position, thus making the error code / engine light illuminate? I'm taking car back tomorrow and need to get them to sort it. It's already been back once and had electrical connections 'checked'. My car's a 2005 Fiesta 1.4 TDCi, not quite an ST, but it dreams of it I'm sure. This is the only place I've found with people talking about Fiestas, so any advice would be appreicated, with thanks xx

How do you find your diesel? Might be getting one later this year

S'alright. Could definitely do with a bit more oommphhh. Would probably get at least the 1.6 next time tho. Would be nice to have some more power in a car, especially for safer overtaking, but alas bigger engines cost more money alround don't they, and I'm a fairly heavy muncher of mileage living in the sticks. Mind you, the tax is cheap on the 1.4, like £35 a year or sommat

you will need a code reader plugged into the cars diagnostics port to clear the fault code, but if the fault has not been fixed it will just come back and put the light back on. I could do it but you might live miles away, any garage should be able to clear the code, probably for a few quid.
