Looking for some help if possible. Went to manchester today and half way there my engine management light came on. I managed to drive all the way there and back (about a 200 mile round trip) and the car drives fine. However the light has stayed on the whole time. Anyone got any ideas what this could be and if it is ok to keep driving until I can get it into a garage next week?
Thanks

have you got a de cat? or it cud be that your cat is on the way out.
I put a de pipe on my car and after driving it for about 20 miles the engine light came on, the car drove fine and when i took it to the garage (Pumaspeed) they told me the the second lamber sensor was reading to high so it brings the light up to tell you your cat need replacing. tony reset the ecu but said the light would come back on and it would be ok because of want i did, altho i went back because my tb started playing up got the 60mm tb tony reset the ecu again and the light ant come back on after doing over 7000 miles. think the air/feul mix is running alot better.
best thing you can do is take it some where to read the ecu and they will tell you straight away

Not got a de cat, the only mod I have got is a k&n. The cars done 40,000 miles seems a little early for the cat to go or maybe not? Will have to see what the garage says, hopefully won't be anything to costly.

I had a similar problem. After about a week the light eventually turned itself off. It is something to do with the ECU not regonising the K&N i believe but as long as the engine is still running smoothly i wouldnt panic too much.

after so many times of switching your engine on and going on a decent run, the ecu will reset itself. it is just letting you know that there may be a problem but will realise that it is wrong after something like 20 runs and the light will go away.

i read on another forum that all you need to do is clean the throttle bodies to get rid of the engine light

Update for you, the engine management light has now gone off. I haven't done anything so maybe nothing was wrong after all. I will keep an eye on it but its all good at the minute.
I will give my throttle body a clean though as it hasn't been done for a very long time! Thanks for all your input guys
