Its tells ur mpg on phase 2 (facelift) and not on pre facelift.

The springs in the engine are tougher in facelift so if you put in cams you can use the standard springs whereas with pre facelift, the springs would need changed.

Gear box bearings are stronger/larger in the facelift also
Some of the early facelifts are unluckily to have the older ones I hear though, damn ford cutting corners...

The facelift is a nicer model with better interior and exterior looks in my opinion and most others. The only thing i dont like on the facelift model though is the headlights as the bubble shape just looks ridiculous. But everyone has a different opinion so i would say its best off having a look at both before buying!

As previously said, the car itself is basically the same, it's only cosmetic stuff and the options being different.

Apart from the lights, other changes that were made on the facelift:

Dials included analogue fuel and temp guages rather than digital ones; an onboard computer which has outside temp, mpg, miles left, average speed and other settings; 1 touch down electric window; gear lever surround and interior door handles are now shiney not matt; vents for side windows were moved onto the dash; sidelights switch on when unlocked (home safe lights); new style cdplayer (prior to late 2007 this was just an updated version of the old one, after that it was a Sony one which doesn't have a CD multiplayer, but does take mp3 cd's); steering wheel airbag reshaped; lane change indicators (1 touch 3 flashes); softer dashboard; leather gear gaitor (from late 2007 onwards only).

There were also these optional extras on the facelift:

Bluetooth hands free phone with voice control system; portable music connection socket(this was standard for 2007 models onwards, optional before then); electric folding mirrors; rain sensor including auto headlights activation; EATC - Electronic Auto Temperature control; second remote key.

They are slightly different because the pre-facelift had issues with the suspension collapsing at random.

He means the valve springs in the engine. Yes apparently they were because some people that fit cams on prefacelift STs put facelift valve springs in.

There are a few minor insignificant changes between facelift & prefacelift engines, for example my STs engine has an EGR valve whereas facelift ones dont.

Regarding suspension type springs, the most STs I know about with snapped springs actually happen to be facelifted ones, for example my friend James.

Shouldn't you always change spring with cams anyway?
