Just wondering on the ease, or difficulties, of dropping an ST engine in a 1.25 Style (same shape).

Are the mounts the same? Wiring? Etc..

Cheers in advance

Haha, thanks!!

Its a friend, he's got a style with that WRS kit on it, but being 1.25l its lacking 'oomph'!!

Seen an engine, box, ecu for £900, cheaper option of its viable!

dont do it, make it look like an st maybe but your just asking for trouble with that mod. cost of parts labour, mods on insurance registering it your just going to pay more for nothing back from it. sell and use the money he would of spent on buying an older st if he cant afford a newer one

labour and changing details are no issue (i know people!)

Im guessing it wont just drop in like the old corsa/nova 2ltr conversions? (with minor mods)

very much doubt it. youll have to fab some mounts on, uprate pretty much everything, brakes, suspension, clutch, drive shafts. too much of a headache

It usually works out cheaper to buy the faster car anyway, by the time you have all the needed parts and then declared them on the insurance. I'll be bored tomorrow so I'll do a quote to compare, but just get the

i never thought an engine conversion was a good idea. if you want the looks but the upgrades but it you want the power go for the faster car in the first place. I myself have a fiesta style and i would never think of upgrading the engine or anything that 'big'

The ST is not just about the engine, but also the look of the car... Just my thoughts...

i'd rather have looks than the engine. don't need to go fast + don't have anywhere to go fast + don't want to spend too much money on fuel.

Agreed. I'm not especially knowledgable on such things, but I would imagine that you would need a damn good mechanic to do such a job. If it's extra power you want, tell your mate to look at Zetec S models. They are still rather nippy, cost less than a and look great.

why spend all that money when you'd be better off saving for a faster car in the end and get a car for the day and a weekender ?

Right, I said I'd get you some quotes to compare the cost of insuring an against an uprated Style. The Style I used was the same value as my , and all details were kept the same eg. two parents, on a driveway, two minor fault claims back along etc. I pay £1860 ish for the , and believe it or not, no one would insure me on the Style. The mod's I declared were non-standard engine, brake and suspension upgrades. Hope that helps a bit mate

Mate, I'm only 19, you have to be 21 to go with greenlight. It will take me two years to properly explain why I ended up paying that, but at the time it was the cheapest quote

Duncan P, you have a very nice + fast car for a 19 year old!

Just a thought, but if you did an ST engine conversion, you could just not insurance declare it? They do not always check the engine after accidents and MOTs you woule be able to get away with.

But the overall cost of changin everything, would be too expensive.

Spark - what engine is your fiesta?

Also, do people think that the 1.25 fiesta is too slow?

NO! Thats why the cost of insurance goes up, muppets who do this and then crash.....Insurance sting us for it! ALWAYS DECLARE ANY MODIFICATION

ok, sorry i did think it was a bit of a stupid suggestion

But...do you think minor mods such as new lights, aerial, tinted windows, that sort of thing should really be declared?

Becuase if you crashed, you could remove these parts?

Performance modifications should be declared, lights, Aerials etc wouldn't be classed as "Modifications" by the Insurance company. Any thing that affects the performance of the car should be declared.

Well to be honest, I had stripes put on mine and have not declared this. And I don't think my Insurance company would be bothered either!

ye, but say if your car was like one of the show cars, without a huge engine, just a lot of visual mods. Should they all be declared?

You'd have to check with your insurance company mate, As far as my insurance company goes Performance mods and Wheels should all be declared, Cosmetic modifications do not have to be declared providing they do not change the overall appearance for example respraying the car a different colour.

Cheer Ben, I do love it But as Stu said, ALWAYS ALWAYS declare your mods, if you cant afford/justify the premium hike, don't buy them. And declare everything! I once heard a story where a guy had parked his car outside his house as always and someone smashed into it and drove off. His insurance didn't pay out just because he put Lexus lights on it (muppet ) )
All insurance companies want is your money, and if they can find a way of avoiding paying out they will!
Good luck with the conversion if you go ahead with it though mate

yes absolutley everything is checked so they can get out of paying. someone crashed into my brother inlaw and when he went to claim, his insurance wouldnt cover him beacuse he didnt declaire the 3 points he got for speeding. daft but only fair as he broke his contract with the insurance.

when you sign the papers you agree to the terms and conditions of the insurer, and buy not declaring the points, his insurance was invalid. therefor when the kid smashed into him, he was technically not insured and the kid ended up winning the battle and didnt have to pay for his car. he was left with a huge bill to pay himself as his own insurer wouldnt pay out either

By you paying them the premium and them sending you the documents you enter into a contract with them, and I expect the terms can be found on their site. No physical signature is required as far as I'm aware.
