I've just purchased a 07 plate Fiesta ST yesterday in the glorious sunshine, but today with the weather turning to heavy rain, I checked out my wiper controls for the first time but think I may have a problem, and if I have, can anyone tell me what I need to change or how to fix?

The manual touch down of the stalk gives me a quick flick of the wipers - working fine.
When I touch the stalk up to set to 'intermittent', I get one wipe and that is all? I've tried turning the numbers switch on the stalk, I'm guessing this is supposed to be the waiting time before another wipe but that changes nothing? - Problem?
With another touch up of the stalk I'm onto frequent wipes - working, then up again to fast wipes - working.

So the only problem I'm facing is the 'intermittent' setting. Is this a common problem? Does the stalk need changing?

Any positive feedback would be appreciated.

Thankyou

Has the car got rain sensor wipers, that is what the rotary control is for.

Thanks for the feedback, it turned out I had got rain sensor wipers The only thing I don't get now is the sensitivity setting? Is no.1 the most sensitive? or is it no.6? Never got a handbook with the car so at the moment I'm tryin to figure most things out..

1 is the most sensitive with 6 being the lowest.

If you turn the headlight switch to Auto it will turn the wipers to Auto aswell.

So, if you turn the wiper dial to 1, the wiper sensor, (which is positioned at the rear view mirror), will be at it's max sensitiviy, but the wipers will fluctuate through the wipes depending on the rain hitting the winscreen sensor.

If you want to turn the Auto wipers off, you need to turn the headlight switch to the '0' position, this will mean all wipers and headlights become Manual and the wipers will retime themselves to the sensitivity that you set on the stalk.

You'll soon get used to it.

Sorry Kev, correction.

Auto headlamps and auto wipers run independently from each other even though they use the same sensor in the screen.

To enable Auto light function you turn the lamp switch to auto.

To enable auto wipe function you push the wiper stalk up to position one (intermittent for standard cars)
The wipers will wipe once to calibrate the sensor.
You then leave the wiper stalk on position one all the time, as soon as the sensor senses water it will wipe.

The adjustment is position 1 is the most sensitive (as mentioned)
I find position three to be the best
