It's a whiring/electric motor noise, like the noise from a brand new ST , but louder.
It only happens after a spat of high revving (5500-6500 rpm) and then happens for a period of about 3-5 mins afterwards.
I think it's the power steering pump, as the noise increases and decreases with light throttle.
I thought it may be due to the high pressure within the power steering system, created during high revving.
Can anybody confirm this or tell me if they have a similar noise.
It doesn't sound worrying, but if it's a problem i'd like to nip it in the bud .

A few weeks back I floored it in first to get past someone quickily (and the revs were up a bit high) and just after I noticed a whining noise (or possibly a whirring) and it definitly changed with different amounts of throttle.
I am no mechanic but I was pretty sure its the power steering or atleast sounded like it. It was way to loud to be the radiator fan.

I have noticed it again, but a lot quieter when you start the car in the cold and first pull off.

I'm very sure it's not the radiator fan as the noise increases with a few revs,, and the engine isn't over heated.
I was on the ProDrive day today and asked one of the instuctors if they had a similar problem with the ST after ragging,, err,,, high revving. I was told that it was indeed the steering pump. The oil gets hot and the viscosity changes. It's not dangerous
I think i'll put it to Ford service centre and see if they agree.
The noise does disappear a few mins after normal driving.

I've got a whistle noise from my engine from cold that changes pitch with the engine speed. Aparently is a secondary air valve or some rubbish.

Strange as it only started doing it 1 week ago , I told the dealership it must not have been working for the first 2 months. There fobbing me off if you ask me.

Also my PAS pump has started getting noisey over the last week but apparently they do that aswell!!!!
