I bet you guys didn't know about this feature. ? The sidelights and all the interior lights come on. If the sidelights are on, nothing further happens. If headlights are on, nothing else happens.

So... what to do? Will a garage charge me a tonne to do what is a tiny job? Or can I fix this myself?

I changed a brake light (passenger side, if that makes any difference) about 2 weeks ago... could that be anything to do with it? I haven't noticed it happening until yesterday, but it *could* have been since the brake light, I don't know.

Also, after heavy rain, I open the driver door and water pours out the bottom, which I've asked about on here and you guys tell me it's supposed to happen.

Ideas?

water problem is fine u have drain holes in your doors.
brake light- have you put right one in. if your using the wrong bulb that could cause the problems. should be a 12/21w double and not a single fillament bulb if that makes sense

My brothers wipers work when the car is in motion but when he stops at the lights they stop dead in the middle of the screen Got it fixed today and the garage guy said when a car does 'funny things' like that it's an electrical fault for a garage technician to sort out...

earth problem mate.

when i had my astra years back i put the wrong type of brake light bulb in. when i braked it caused my headlights to flash. this was due to the wrong type of connection on the base of the bulb causing the earth fault. i used a single contact point bulb instead of a double. check that otherwise take it to you local garage

Thanks guys. I think it's the bulb. I have one of those multipacks of car bulbs and the only one missing seems to be next to a single filament one... I'll stick a double one in tomorrow.

try removing the bulb and not replacing it first. if the bulb is causing the problem this should stop it. Another bulb might still cause the problem

as said, wrong bulb, my mk2 did this and my mates mk6 did it for a while - halfords sold him the wrong bulbs.

I did this.

I replaced the brakelight bulb with a single filament and when I step on the brake my parklight went on and dash light.

The tailight bulb should be dual filament and 2 contact points on the bottom.
