Hi all,

I know most people are busy thinking about Ford Fair but just wanted to put some feelers out regarding another North West meet. North West being the location, not necessarily just members from the area!

I thought a run through the illuminations one weekend in Sept / Oct might be cool (not just because I am from Blackpool ) but obviously other location suggestions are welcome!

Having spoken with Lee, I'm happy with Blackpool as the location!

Don't think they are the world's greatest these days but not sure things have got that bad just yet. I see them every year though and they don't seem to change much. Just thought there may be some good pics to be had of an convoy going through them. As I said, I'm totally open to other suggestions I will happily leave the seaside for a day or so

Cheers for the effective PR job, Steve!

No I think it is a good idea. If we meet early enough we can make a day of it. Ice cream, fish and chips, maybe even a trip up the tower

http://www.blackpool-illuminations.net/2010/2010SwitchOn.html

the switch on could be a good night to go if people want to meet that soon again. robbie williams and alesha dixon going to be there and many more to be confirmed yet, and also 1500 ladies doing a charity walk down the strip. could be some potential there for some good photos. thinking maybe the end of septemeber may not be the best of times to go as its the school holidays (i think), but that may also work in some peoples favour.

also another potential meeting point could be matlock bath illuminations. used to go to this as a child and loved it but havent been in a few years. lots of boats that have been lit up in different themes, from ducks in a bath, to steam trains and the last time i went, there was one in the style of a casino with a james bond theme. they do it at 8pm to get the best light from them and then at about 9.15-9.30, fireworks are set off from the hilltops which lasts for 30min.

the fireworks are only on certain nights and this year they are the 2nd, 16th and 30th october. (2nd im in the dominican and 30th is my birthday)

just thought i'd throw another idea in there

I'd be up for that. Might depend how far or where people are coming from as to where we meet on the way but I'd be happy to leave the seaside to come back again

Any other ideas people?

I'm up for this whether Blackpool or Matlock, depending on what other people want to do.

To try and get things rolling a bit further I think we need to set a date for this meet and the weekend of the 16th of October you've suggested seems just fine. Going to Blackpool switch on sounds nice, but the problem is there's too many other things going on in September already, ie. Trax and Renault Day, so October seems better.

Go to Matlock bath every year and its better every year. The fireworks are spectacular and free. Just pay to see the market and boats. Me and my wife walk up to the temple hotel for the best view of matlock bath and fireworks. However you have to get there very early just to park in matlock bath as it gets choked with traffic and people now its so popular

october 16th is great and i think getting there early enough wont be a problem. theres enough stuff to do around the area to keep us entertained a few hours before, food, pint, arcades, deep see aquarium thing, some nice photo opertunities. theres also a museum on the history of photography which i know some people will be interested in. shuts at 5pm tho but i reckon if there is enough going, i can have a word with them to open abit later.
